Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@creative_writer glad they've got some lived experience, goes a long way hey. And hope you can get connected in with some dece ED support - you been looking into Butterfly Foundation at all?

Totally get it as a coping strat too. I think it can afford a sense of control that we can't often find in a lotta other places in our modern lives.

@Jynx yes I’ve been reaching out to Butterfly Foundation.

I think a lot of us are stressed out. The busy lives don’t help any of us. We are encouraged to stay busy, staying busy doesn’t give us the space to process emotions. I’ve had times in my life where friends advised me to stay busy. I sort of shut down afterwards, being busy all the time won’t heal me, and will only burn me out. It is definitely about control. I think I just need to look for that control elsewhere. My mental health weighs heavy on me everyday. I see ED as a secondary mental illness

@creative_writer totally agree. I think 'staying busy' can help sometimes, but it certainly isn't a great way to actually process anything hey.

And yeah I think that's wise. I saw something the other day about like, don't just try to stop the unhealthy coping strats, figure out what need they're fulfilling and replace them instead.

Got any ideas on that one? Might be something worth researching ay.

I should probably start saying my goodnights!! Your appt is this week? I wish you much luck for a helpful and validating experience 🤞

@Jynx I’ve been given the advice “stay busy” and it just made me angrier. I know not everyone can hold that space and that’s fair. I only ever talk to select people now.

I think I need time to think about other ways to gain control that are healthier. I think healing trauma will also be helpful in the recovery process of ED. I told my psych today that I was concerned about being retraumatised as I’ve been retraumatised in therapy before. I’m going to take it slow with trauma. I’m worried about going into details I also need to complete an ED online test, and she’ll get paperwork ready for my GP once I’ve completed it

@Jynx I forgot to take my saffron earlier this afternoon, I’m paying the price now. Feeling rather low and unmotivated, but hopefully it should get easier now that I’ve taken it. Remembering everything I need to take is rough, gotta thank ADHD brain. I also had a surge of emotions after my psych appointment. My psych knew I’ve sort of been avoiding talking about the hard stuff. I told her that I had been retraumatised in the past, so I’ve been going around it cautiously. I think feeling invalidated caused the retraumatisation in the past, I haven’t spoken about details for a very long time, my current psych doesn’t know much. I felt judged by my previous psychologist, I guess I’ve been scared of feeling judged again.

I hope you are doing okay today 💖

@creative_writer aye I have a number of daily bits and bobs to take and I am starting to think I need a master list 😅

Have you brought this up with your psych, that this is maybe a barrier to moving forward and/or delving more deeply?

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@Jynx remembering everything is hard work. Not the first time I forgot. The supplement won’t work unless you take it frequently enough. I might need a master list too.

I have mentioned being retraumatised, but didn’t mention the invalidation. Other therapist was too clinical in her approach, but that can also feel invalidating. I could also see her own opinions and views coming through. I could explore it with the current psych. What I have found helpful in the past is when therapists are human and take the time to understand and feel you.

It was a hard session. Emotions of what my life could’ve been also kicked in. I know I wouldn’t be me without everything, and it has made me more empathetic. I also feel at loss. It shouldn’t have happened like this, it feels like stolen innocence. It’s going to be hard to go into a romantic relationship without fire alarms go off. They go off on a regular basis since they’re so wonky, but they are louder in certain situations

@creative_writer someone's probably made an app for it 😅

I imagine it's worth at least bringing up, so that your psych has awareness and can approach particular topics gently or check in first on certain things.

That grief is difficult to work through hey, especially because it's not a tangible loss, so it's not as easily understood by others sometimes.

You got my brain ticking though. I thought 'hmm...what would it be like to meet that Jynx? The one who had a 'normal' childhood and was 'well-adjusted' and securely attached?'

and...... honestly I don't think I'd like them very much 🤣🤣

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@Jynx I think many people have made many apps for ADHD, I just have no idea that they exist somewhere in the web world.

Might need to explore feeling invalidated in therapy in the past to help manage potential mishaps in the future.

I honestly found the young me “stay positive attitude” annoying, don’t know if the securely attached one would be echoing that more. I understand depression on a deeper level and you can’t think yourself out of it, people who say otherwise do not get it. The “stay positive attitude” didn’t do me any favours, it can lead to denial. Back then I didn’t know I was struggling with my mental health, I thought denial was the way to cope. I’ve always had anxiety as a kid and would disassociate. I remember dissociating at primary school
