Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

Oh that's heavy @creative_writer yes please take it slow and gentle once you get home!! Does your PRN help you when trying to sleep? Sounds like a rest and reset could do wonders for your poor frazzled brain.

Hugs 💜

@Jynx I love volunteering, but sometimes it’s hard. I am also heightened right now, so it feels like a lot. I want to be able to do more and help others, but it’s hard with my mental health. I know sometimes I need to cancel shifts and I do feel guilty, but it’s not appropriate taking calls or interactions during that very heightened state.

Yes PRN helps with sleep. Figuring out right med dose is hard, lots of trial and error. Main thing is the meds side effects are bearable. I’ll give myself some time to see if I can stabilise, my pdoc said to reach out if I need anything. He is away this week.

I’m out but getting intrusive thoughts, I think I just need to let them pass instead of trying to change them. I need to let myself feel all the challenging emotions.

Hello lovely! Thought I would pop in here too. @creative_writer 💛

I am so glad you love volunteering - how has it been this week?

I do understand where you're coming from and I have felt this way before. Sometimes you do really need to put you first, and that's okay.

At times, our emotional selves can really do wonders in supporting others, and other times, we need to listen to our gut.

It's great to know your pdoc has said you can reach out and that your current side effects are bearable - that's so positive!

Experiencing intrusive thoughts when we are out and about can be overwhelming... but it can also provide some distraction, enough so we can redirect our focus. is there anything you could explore putting your full attention onto right now? (Just an exercise, if it feels too much, you can absolutely stop!). 💛

@creative_writer I know how hard it can be to make that choice, but I think it's the right one - it means you're putting both yourself and others first, by protecting your energy, and refraining from going into a shift when you know you can't hold that space. I've done it too to protect this community, and I hate doing it sometimes because I value this community and its members so much. The guilt tells you how much you care 💜

This sounds like a good path hun. Hope your sleep is restful tonight!

@AuntGlow I ended up only doing one shift last week, I had to take a day off and cancelled last minute because SI was really bad on Friday.

Not entirely sure how to place attention back during events at times. It was hard to get away since he was a mental health based event. I did take some tools away from it at least 💖

@Jynx it is hard when you really care about others, but I know I can't pour anything with an empty cup. I really want to work towards providing that therapeutic space for others. I've just had to go at my own pace, and I think I needed time away from employment.

Sleep has been better, will hopefully be getting some omega 3 in the mail, apparently it can improve the effects of antidepressants. I don't think I get enough omega 3 in my diet, I reckon you'll need to eat oily fish everyday to get that therapeutic dose. I hope you have a restful week 💖

I am proud of you for listening to your body @creative_writer

What tools did you take away from the event? 💛

@AuntGlow the event gave some tips of managing distress from a spiritual perspective. I've been finding slowing my breathing during prayer to be more effective than doing either alone. It probably makes it easier to focus. Can't really take spirituality out of mental health.

Spirituality is different for everyone, having purpose and meaning helps.

I have a shift on Friday and will see how I go. I've been managing but have been super exhausted. Exhaustion is probably expected after a really rough bout. I am also hoping to process some heavy stuff during my next session appointment

💖

I am so glad that this event helped you in this way and I love the connection between and prayer here, that makes so much sense. Please let me know how you go on Friday and in your next appointment, always here to listen. @creative_writer 💖

@AuntGlow I somehow missed your post. I feel like many people slow down their breathing in prayer, it’s helps with regulation and concentration. You know how my brain is always so frazzled and scattered. I do hope to learn to regulate so I can actually concentrate and be more mindful. I’ve slowed down my eating pace, it helps with mental health and digestion. Less bloating= I am more likely to be compliant with diet suggestions.

Today has been rough, but I’m just taking it moment by moment. I am no longer agitated, but mood is very low, I’m doing the best I can to keep myself safe. GP wanted me to touch base in 1-2 weeks. My pdoc sent a letter to my GP and psych to let them know about the situation. Might need to do safety planning and unpack big emotions with my psych on Monday. I’m honestly scared of unpacking, but it’s weighing down heavy on me, I think I need to say something. I’ve been sort of avoidant lately. Need to work on my avoidant tendencies. I avoid emotions, I run away in relationships. I get super sensitive with rejection and have bad RSD. I get offended when people misunderstand. I struggle to reach out for support. U try to convince myself I’m better off alone. I think it’s my attachment style, my mum said that when I was younger I used to pretend I didn’t need people. The thing is my avoidant tendencies get me in trouble a lot of the time, it’s not always so protective
