Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@Jynx just small things like minimising light exposure, it sort of can have an overenergising effect. I’ve been wearing sunglasses since I’ve been outdoors a lot today. Sleep hygiene helps. I have my other self care-like prayers, box breathing, and five sense grounding. If it gets super bad, I can contact a helpline. Psychiatrist also said I can have an earlier appointment if needed. I don’t think I’ve gotten to the stage of needing extra support, it’s just about containing it.

Meal prepping also means more dishes. It’s hard initiating those mundane tasks. I have to think a week ahead for meal prep now. Trying to keep my blood sugar stable as possible with how much I can tolerate isn’t easy. I’m slowly working on it, adjusting food intake has been scary but I’m doing it

@creative_writer sounds like you're onto it, and it's good to be well-supported/have that fallback option too 💜

Oh that is definitely a tricky adjustment hey. My sweet tooth would get me into trouble...I think it already does 😅

Much on this weekend?

@Jynx yes, I’ve drawn up a plan. I do need to get my safety plan.

Yes, the sweet tooth can definitely can one in trouble. Same with processed food.

My ED makes it hard to feel safe around food, I think it caused my blood sugar levels to fluctuate. I get migraines. I’ve had to make some adjustments to intake, but I’m trying to tell my mind it’ll be better for me long term. Dietician work is gradual and changes happen slowly, but I’ve started the process. My diet wasn’t super balanced.

I’ll probably need to cook meat for the next week and figure out what I need for the coming week. Today has also been a tiring day, so maybe some resting up. Do you have much planned?

@creative_writer good idea hun 😊

Yeah it can be really rough, but I am glad you're focusing on making the changes gradual. It's hard when it kicks off the panic button hey. I reckon it'll get easier as you go 🤞

Resting up sounds choice! I need to finish this risotto then probably do a bit of a workout - been on my rump all day!!

@Jynx food rules may help you feel safe, but can be detrimental, I needed adjustments since it wasn’t balanced.

I do want to get some movement in tomorrow, even if it’s a more gentle day with walking. I’ve already maxed out my home gym workouts this week.

What kind of workouts do you do? I just do the regular strength training and conditioning. I also try to get outdoor walks in between. I think exercise in nature also has so many pros. I hope the risotto turns out delicious.

@creative_writer been working with my physio to try to find the right movements to focus on - so mainly like bodyweight exercise or calisthenics or whatever you wanna call it, like push ups and squats etc.

And yeah same thing - nature walks whenever I can. Went out during my break tonight and did a bit of barefoot running, it's nice to touch grass!

@Jynx I need to find a hypermobility focused physio. I’ve used my sessions on a generic physio, but didn’t find much relief. Rheumatologist said to see someone specialised for joint hypermobility and fibro. She also suggested getting my spine checked by a physio because the shoulder unevenness could have a structural component (runs in my family). I get lots of one sided migraines. Otherwise just following an exercise routine my PT set up for me. I see walks as active rests, it keeps the blood flowing. Nature is also soothing. I think I may also need to work on my relationship with exercise, I have mixed feelings. It helps but also ED is affecting my relationship.

Some people find touching the grass grounds them. I don’t think I could do it rn, maybe once I got allergies in control.

@creative_writer when my physio started asking me questions that went beyond my physical activity (like stuff about diet, trauma, lifestyle etc) is when I knew she knew her stuff. Took me ages to find someone who didn't just say 'It's from your laptop, go get a new bed new shoes new pillow new chair then you'll be good' (slightly exaggerating but you get the point lol).

Hope you can find a good one too 🤞

Ugh the pollen is so gnarly haha good luck hun. I do gots to dash so, sneeze ya later 🤣

Hope you have a restful night hehe

@Jynx I haven’t found a physio who was that thorough. I’ve just been told to self-manage which I’m doing, but it isn’t enough. My muscles are still super tight despite being active. Rheumatologist said that the muscle tightness will get in the way of building strength. I’ve honestly found being with a personal trainer more useful than physio. Obviously personal trainer can’t do anything about muscle tightness and pain management like a specialised physio.

Hayfever is rough. Got lots of grass and dust exposure yesterday.

I hope you had a restful night 💖. My sleep was okay, just not feeling super rested

@creative_writer amazing how finding a good health professional in any field suddenly raises your standards of what you expect of healthcare professionals 😅 Finding a GP who I felt actually cared about and had some understanding of my emotional state was a game-changer.

Sorry to hear you're a bit weary. Slow day today? Hopefully not too sneezey haha
