Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@creative_writer guess it depends what feels like it could be helpful - and sometimes it's just about passing a bit of time till things settle, or till we can go to bed. Depending on whether I'm restless or in more numb/shutdown will help me decide if I need to do a movement thing or more connecty thing.

@Jynx I feel like I keep oscillating between restless and numb. Just doing what I can, head feels quite heavy right now, I’ve been more sick lately. Maybe my POTS symptoms have been worse, I get all lightheaded. Don’t want to get trapped in my body so trying to not think, but it isn’t working. I’m going to try to go to bed by 10, feeling very exhausted, I’ve had my meds and supplements

@Jynx the migraine pain has been worse since Tuesday, just doing what I can to manage everything. It feels hard not knowing what to do. The weather doesn’t help and ED is making it harder to fuel myself. My throat is starting to feel sore. I need a chapter break

@creative_writer I think sometimes shifts are internal, sometimes they are external. But the one constant in life, is change. You'll find the next step.

I hope you get off to sleep okay hun, chat to you next time 💜

@Jynx I have my next psych appointment on Monday and dietician on Thursday. Migraine wise a bit better, still had a sore throat this morning. Could be allergies, but also could be viral. My brother had a viral infection recently.

Do you think it’s ever appropriate to not talk about things in detail? I’m not sure if I can ever go there again. I feel like a difficult client by keeping my supports at arm length. I think I have avoidant anxious attachment style, too hard to trust people. It’s complicated, I want to be open and not be open. I end up being partially open.

I hope you slept well last night 💖

@creative_writer honestly I think it's totally valid - but it's your call to make.

I think that it's possible to be able to focus more on the emotional outcomes than the details of the events themselves; naming them obviously helps with clarity but if putting words to the experience worsens your distress, maybe it is safer to find another 'path in', if that makes sense.

@Jynx maybe it’s more about focusing on emotions. I’m struggling to get all the emotions out, I feel paralysed. Maybe I’m too disconnected, maybe I’ll figure out with time, but I’m stuck.

@creative_writer emotions can totally get stuck... I'm listening to an audiobook atm called 'My Grandmother's Hands' and one of the things the author talks about is that trauma gets stuck because our bodies were never able to 'complete' their natural trauma response process - i.e. running away, fighting back, etc.

So then it gets stuck in the body, where it can actually be passed on to future generations (the book focuses on intergenerational racialised trauma and how it exists within our bodies - highly recommend). The author also gives some practical skills to help with reconnecting to the body in order to help resolve those frozen memories... but I'm not up to that bit yet lol

How's your weekend going anyhow, up to anything much?

@Jynx I haven’t heard of that book, it sounds interesting. It is true I wasn’t able to get away or fight back. I try to shake the thoughts relating to whether I could’ve done something to stop it. Will also talk to psych about the feeling of stuck-ness. I don’t think I have words.

I’m invited today for dinner. Going to have to manage to eat while being gut friendly. Gut issues aren’t as bad as they were before, but it will be a long process. I think I’ll take my loop earplugs (the conversation friendly ones) and amber glasses for sensory issues, makes a huge difference. That kind of reminds me, I am thinking of getting more earplugs during Black Friday and other stuff I don’t need 😂. Are you up to much this weekend?
