Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@Jynx better numb than have a bipolar temper. I’ve already done what I needed to do, and no, it wasn’t risky. I’m not sure if I can say because I don’t want my post taken down

@Jynx I rather be numb than be called a “burden”. My temper gets the best of me. I know I don’t get physically aggressive or become verbally threatening. I just get frustrated at the smallest things.

I’ve just come back from a walk, managed it despite feeling exhausted and then on the way back I got a tinny aura. Might listen to music, but don’t really feel much rn, I guess listening to music about being numb will help me feel less alone? Have any ideas of what else I can do?

I don’t really feel safe feeling my emotions rn

@creative_writer hmm could help, music usually does for me.

You could create a thread about it, see what others in the community have experienced? Would help feel less alone for sure.

You can always come join the social chat if a distraction is maybe a little more approachable!

@Jynx don't fully feel it, but music still is grounding. It was also good to take a walk, even though I didn;'t fully present, a change of scenery still has an affect.

I wish there were more people in the world who were willing to ask questions if someone was irritable instead of blaming them for not controlling it. The reality is, not many people are willing to sit or validate those emotions because they don't know what to do, and that's not their fault. It's my role to not cause distress to others by my mental health, and I have to do that by dissociating and suppressing.

I would love to create a thread where we share how we feel through a song, but I do then realise some music content can be heavy, so maybe TWs need to be added.

@creative_writer I think often people will demonise emotions that they themselves don't know how to sit with.

Oh love that idea!! It would make for quite an interesting check in space!

Is that how you'd want it to go, like a daily check in with a song? Or weekly, if that's what energy allows!! If you wanted to kick start it, but feel unsure about keeping it going all the time, you can always lean on us to help 😉

@Jynx that’s true emotions are demonised. The “stay positive” can be taken too far. Positive psychology is amazing, don’t get me wrong, but in my opinion it also consists of considering the ugly. I have not so good feelings about plain “Positive Thinking” because it is way too simplified, and can become delusional. I believe we need to be proactive instead of positive thinking away our problems. Law of attraction isn’t based on science and invalidates trauma.

I’ve started a thread just a while back. I feel like it’s helpful to check in with each other through music. Music can help us process emotions on a deeper level. Obviously community guidelines still need to be followed, there is certainly a ton of music suggestions I wouldn’t make on here.

@creative_writer I think I remember talking about this in my Positive Psych unit hey - the difference between like, realistic optimism and idealistic optimism or something like that. Definitely helpful to build our thinking skills, but you're right that the 'positive vibes' notion is toxic hey.

Oh yeah I think I remember that thread! Keen to kick it off again? No idea how to find it tho lol

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@Jynx the craze for the law of attraction was big. I think the craze had died down, but the toxicity positivity remains. I don’t think it ever sat with me right. It’s not realistic to sit at home and positively think that you’ll win money and would never need to work in your life. It is far from what positive psychology teaches.

I just started a new thread because I have no idea where it went : https://saneforums.org/t5/Social-space/A-song-that-describes-your-current-emotional-state-TW/m-p/1736511#M477278

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@creative_writer it's a tricky one - I think I get what it was getting at, but it was just taken too far.

I think of it like this. Someone who is holding onto the thought 'I am gonna make a lotta money' is more likely to strive for a promotion than someone who is holding onto the thought 'I hope I win some money'.

Our thoughts make our reality, so the more we tell ourselves we believe we will achieve or succeed in something, the more likely we are to persevere. Our minds have more power than I think we realise - but like even with the lottery example, let's say the whole law of attraction dealio actually worked. You still won't win cos a million other people are thinking the same way! 🤣

But, whether it works or doesn't work, either way I reckon that if you hold more firmly to a goal or desire (that is actually grounded in reality), you're more likely to get it than someone who wants the same thing but believes they won't get it. Does that make sense? Gee I hope so cos I gotta skedaddle soon 😅

I think that's kinda what positive psych was leaning into anyway hey!

I hope you have a nice evening hun and catch plenty of snoozles! 😉💜
