Talking through trauma and PTSD

Therapy types

Therapy types

Seeking help, thoughts, info from life experiences etc

currently doing schema therapy for CPTSD and feeling have hit a wall.

been reading little bits about ACT therapy and wondering if could be worth talking with psychologist about next session in couple days time.

wondering what type of therapy might help me coming to terms with, and deal with, ongoing grief from loss of family members 40+ yrs ago.

Psychologist has mentioned EMDR various times. Not something I feel I can do

Re: Therapy types

Oh my gosh, @PeppyPatti!! I have been missing you. How are you? 💛

I have explored a little bit of somatic type therapies, CBT/DBT, and Internal Family Systems. 🫶

Re: Therapy types

Lol I have no idea what @PeppiPatty and @TAB are talking about with Bob/boob/dynamite therapy, but it sounds funny.

@PeppiPatty I like your insights and wisdom in your comments. 😊 Agree that labels sometimes need to be cautious with. I don't see people are "bad" for their faults per se - I don't like to label anyone as "bad" as opposed to their actions (but there are a few humans in history that it can be hard to do that for when pressed!).

I actually would love to learn more about what the impacts on life are for you from your head injury if you ever feel like sharing -- but absolutely no expectation or pressure to share! I know it may be very personal and not something you want to share. I love learning about what life is like for people, and I don't have any friends (face to face) that have had a traumatic brain injury, so I have not yet learned much about it. Learning about this type of thing helps me understand life from more perspectives and makes me more considerate as a person I think. 🙂

@AuntGlow if you were a counsellor/psychotherapist I'd be willing to pay you to chat to. 😊 You ask good questions and have insightful thoughts. It is good for processing things I think.

Re: Therapy types

That movie seems worth watching @TAB i will keep an eye out

irony and comedy and even some tragedy

egotistical therapists maybe an issue for more than just Bob. My gp told me 20 years ago that my case was so tricky, I might need to keep changing them, and in the end, as they were simply not getting it. My current therapist may be the best yet. She is young, we are aligned and she respects my requests and doesn’t overstep boundaries or thinks she knows it all.

@PeppyPatti I miss Mazz @Mazarita I think of her walking on a beach…. We met late at night… on the night shift… but the guys meet on that thread now, which is fine. I am not up nights anymore. I only did it for a year.

I am needing long term therapy. Not just a frill, but a necessity. I doubt I would have survived without it, but it is often more about me showing up and researching and applying strategies. Containing the intergenerational trauma has been a lifelong struggle for me.

@EternalFlower @AuntGlow @AlwaysMyself it really makes a difference when responding in posts that they are tailored to the person. I am also grateful for AuntGlows style. She tries and follows through.
