Our Dream Trip

Our Dream Trip

@Glisten @AlwaysMyself

I created this thread so we can talk about our dream trip, but if you'd prefer just to chat on already established threads that's cool too.

Father gave me this piece of advice when I was about 15 so I'm not sure that Steve Tyler was the first to say it 😋

@ENKELI @Glisten

Watching Anastasia (movie) this evening on @AuntGlow recommendation (Ice Breaker thread), and it reminds me of my past trip to St Petersburg in Russia. 🥰 I will add it to our virtual tour, and show you the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood (I did not go inside, but the outside architecture is just wonderous - similar to St Basil's in Moscow), and to the fountains and gardens at Peterhof Palace, and if you like art then into the Winter Palace that is now the Hermitage Museum. Next I'll take you south to the Summer Palace (but let's do this in Spring or summer ok? When the roses dont look like weird sticks in snow fields). The best hot chocolate I've ever had was in St Petersburg.

@ENKELI 🤣😆😂 it doesn’t matter which Party it is we all have at least one of those MPs.

I lived that same experience. Twice 🤪Sociopaths.

I’m so glad that you and Mr MM aren’t getting soggy in your sleep.

Seasonal house general maintenance is very important. I’ve cleaned the gutters here twice in less than a year.

I made Chia seed Chocolate Pudding for dessert 🍮 More like a warm fluffy Hot Chocolate 😊

Re: Our Dream Trip

@Glisten chia seed chocolate pudding sounds mighty good.

I had Murray St chocolate ice cream. All natural ingredients lol.

Now I have sugar munchies and given the temperature is only 10 degrees it might be porridge with honey. My go to sweet treat.

I want to be in a cabin in the snow, fire blazing and curled up with a blankey and a good book.

@Snowie Manifesting Europe for you as we speak!! ✨

@AlwaysMyself Thank you so much for your Bali recommendation - that is honestly perfect... watch this space, you may get a message that I am leaving the forums for a week to frolick in the fields of Ubud. 🤩

PS: Your Russia explorations sound incredible. I am glad Anastasia could transport you back there - did you like the movie?

@Former-Member The idea of being in a town that's so welcoming and family-oriented sounds beautiful.

@Bow I never get tired of hearing about your travels and your unadulterated love of Disney!

@Shaz51 I would love to go to Scotland and Ireland too. 😍

Re: Our Dream Trip

@AuntGlow I did enjoy the film, especially knowing the historical story of the last of the Romanov family. One of my dogs is named Anya, lol - in homage to her Russian breed, but not specifically short for Anastasia. When we were coming up with names for our male Russian-breed dog, we did joke about naming him "Raspoochin" but that got overruled lol. It is quite interesting that Disney decided to cast Rasputin as the "enemy" of the Romanov family instead of the Bolshevik / Red Army; Guess it makes for a more interesting story and adds to the Rasputin legacy of name?

I am just imagining you now as the lady in the old AAMI ad I think it was? With the person in Bali with a drink and relaxing? 🤣

@AuntGlow Some small country towns have an indescribable charm, at atmosphere of calm where no one is in a hurry.

last time I was in one specific town was 1970’s. Town has grown a bit and every house now has a street number. Decades ago there was only street names, most people knew where each other lived.

Mail sent to my great uncle and aunt was addressed. Mr and Mrs (surname), (street name), town name.

Re: Our Dream Trip

@Former-Member that is so interesting! I didn't realise that was the case in some towns in Aus, but it makes sense! When I was in a medium-sized town in an African country I learned that they also do not have postal addresses! You just address it to a Name and usually the post knows where that person is, or you put the street name and the closest "exit" road. ...but they also don't have letterboxes, so I am not sure where they would leave letters? Maybe slide it under the front door... I never thought to ask that. I think I was trying to work out how to address a parcel for delivery to my friend there. 😅 I don't remember how we addressed it in the end lol. I think maybe for him to pickup at the post office or something.

Re: Our Dream Trip

@Former-MemberI love your memories of the way things were in the '70s. We didn't just know our next door neighbours, we knew the whole street. I have never been happy living in the city and if I were able I'd live in a small town tomorrow.

I lived in Kalgoorlie in the 1980's and one of the houses I lived in was numbered 8E. There was no A,B,C or D.

Rural properties are still numbered depending on the distance the property is from the beginning of the road and if there are more than one building on the same property, it will have a different number.

And in Broome where houses have numbers, there are no letterboxes because they have no posties. You have to get a PO box but the cost is subsidised. Mind you given the weather I wouldn't want to have to deliver mail in Broome either!

@AlwaysMyself @ENKELI

For decades, people living and working on sheep and cattle farms have had their mail addressed to them using their name/s, property name and nearest town. I have relatives that, for 3 generations, received their mail that way. Main 2 aspects of driving the long distance to town was grocery shopping and collect the mail which was held at the post office.

late 60’s and early 70’s hold my happy memories…. Fun, silly times as a child like being woken by the sound of a cow who had put her head through the bedroom window. My country cousins finding it funny.

Re: Our Dream Trip

@Former-Member 🤣🤣 picturing that startled waking to see a cow with its head in the bedroom window. Naww how cute lol.

Much more fun than the spider or frog under the loo seat! Those are my memories of visiting my grandparents farm.
