Our Dream Trip

Our Dream Trip

@Glisten @AlwaysMyself

I created this thread so we can talk about our dream trip, but if you'd prefer just to chat on already established threads that's cool too.

Father gave me this piece of advice when I was about 15 so I'm not sure that Steve Tyler was the first to say it 😋

Re: Our Dream Trip

Is the first wish house repairs @ENKELI ?

Whats the third wish?

I might wish for a magic carpet with an enclosed cabin and jets... since its magic there is no fuel cost. Then I could travel for free 🤭🤭🤭

Re: Our Dream Trip

@AlwaysMyself yes indeedy it is house repairs, along with adding an upstairs area. I once went to a home open where the owners had put the master bedroom upstairs, along with a bathroom and a large sitting area. I thought it was perfect.

Failing that I once house sat for a friend whose house layout I loved. I'd try an wangle both the renovation/repairs and new house layout.

Second wish is yours, although I do like the idea of Jeannie or Samantha (from Bewitched) being able to blink and appear in a different location. Jetlag would be a thing of the past!

My third wish would be to find a job I love, where my colleagues were nice and not bullies, didn't threaten me and treated me like a human being. The last 2 positions I had were violently toxic, the first one I was bullied and threatened until I was forced to resign, the last one despite disclosing what had happened to me I had a nasty bully as my team leader who would threaten me with HR every time I said something she didn't agree with. It didn't matter if it was something petty like not agreeing to stapling the page on the side she wanted (I kid you not), she would threaten to send me to HR. In the end I was called in to HR and told I was being let go. I was not given an explanation why and when I requested a separation certificate for Centrelink they refused to send it to me. I missed out on a fortnight of payments and it's only because my family were able to loan me money to pay my bills for the month.

Wow, I didn't realise I was still holding on to all that. Sorry about that, I imagine a long rant was the last thing you were expecting or wanting.

In a perfect world I would be financially secure enough to be able to do volunteer work instead of paid work.

@ENKELI my Retiisi, 20/20 hindsight is horrible. We can’t go backwards. Only forward in time. Grandfather paradox.

2025 I thought we would be travelling by Star Trek transporter 🤔

Re: Our Dream Trip

This is a good point @Glisten and @ENKELI . Instant teleportation would definitely be a step up. Although I dont like the idea of potential glitches and how that may leave a body caught between two places... 🤔

@ENKELI the 3rd wish could come true. Ive known workplaces that are good with positive friendly supportive people. My first job out of school I was a receptionist. My boss would sometimes send me up the street to the bakery to buy a stick of bread with melted cheese on it, and then she'd share it with me. 😊

Re: Our Dream Trip

@AlwaysMyself I worked for Telstra for 17 years, resigned to work for a member of parliament which at the time I thought was my dream job. It was a nightmare. The longest I've held on to a job since 2008 is 2 years.

@Glisten yes hindsight is 20/20. If I had my time over I would have stayed at Telstra as the department I worked in closed and everyone was given the golden handshake, ie redundancy. I would have had 20 years' service and been set financially for life. The second time would be when I worked for BP and a few other fuel companies doing IT for their petrol stations. I resigned to work at a job that was awful and got fired because I found out the state manager was falsifying statistics. Had I stayed with BP again I would have been given a pay-out as the company was made redundant and everyone was given a tidy sum as a thanks.

I am fragile at the moment so overthinking things. More tears than cheers as I try to accept that people who do bad things get rewarded and not what they deserve.

Think it's time to sign off and stop bringing everyone down!

Hugs @ENKELI . I'm thinking of you. Use those tears to water my plant 🙂

Re: Our Dream Trip

Oh, @ENKELI , I'm sorry to hear that you were not treated well in some past jobs. And no, youre not bringing me down by telling me. ❤️‍🩹

I knew someone who worked for an MP, and they were shocked by some of the behind-the-scenes happenings of even someone who espoused and displayed good things publicly. I don't think they stayed for too long either.

It can be hard to get confidence back again after negative experiences. I felt that way a few months ago too. 🥰 <-- Hugs, not meant to be happy face.

I have always dreamed of having a job that sent me overseas, and would allow me to then extend the time (at my own cost) to explore holidays from that location. One of my parents did this a lot when I was a young child and got to see a lot of countries because the big flights were paid by the company already. Back then FBT was a little different too, now I think they tax the companies for a proportion based on how long you holiday for.

Re: Our Dream Trip

@ENKELI my Retiisi you never bring me down.
Look this is me 😁

Me: You can tell when my medication cuts in, right?

Friend: Oh yeah, — I can tell.

There’s a gear shift when your meds kick in:

  • Your thoughts snap into sharper sequence — still fast, but less scattered.
  • The political/historical recall spikes — suddenly you’re pulling in Keating, Gillard, retirement policy, long lunch economics all in one sweep.
  • Your tone goes from reflective/tired to crisp critique with fire.

It’s like watching the fog lift and the driver slam the car into a higher gear. 🚗💨

_______

Retiisi, I was sh!tcanning my own Party’s bad policies. But I’m allowed to, right? 😁

At night I’m like a Two year old, that lost their favourite toy 🧸

What’s the reason you left Telstra and BP?

We’re you looking for something more for filling?

In response to: Re: Our Dream Trip

Re: Our Dream Trip

@Glisten I left Telstra because I was actually head hunted for the position of Electorate Officer for a specific MP and having been involved with the party in a voluntary role for many years it was a position I really wanted even though it meant moving 2200 km away and taking a pay cut.

What we didn't know was that said member went through staff like most people have hot dinners and the research officer was an unpleasant person who let me take the blame for their mistakes. The research officer sat and smiled while I got yelled at by the member for a poorly written letter that the research officer had drafted.

As for BP the company that had the contract for their IT support only paid $38k per annum for 10 hour shifts. There were no weekend rates or night rates and I got stuck working night shift for nearly 12 months - I missed Christmas, NYE, my birthday, my then partner's birthday and every public holiday. I ended up splitting with my ex because unless he had a day off during the week the most we saw each other was 45 minutes a day. Oh and the fact he was shagging some work associate didn't help.

Re: Our Dream Trip

@AlwaysMyself that option for working overseas would be awesome. I agree, having a job where you get to visit other countries with the option of holiday time would be glorious.

When I win my millions on lotto I shall employ you to travel the world and report back on your experiences 🌎 😍
