Sibling grief - I recently lost my brother - death by suicide

hi all,

I recently lost my dear brother to suicide. We are 14 months apart in age.

this past week, there has been a stream of condolences and as much as I understand their intended kindness to allievate my pain, these well wishes don’t understand, that yes I am heart broken by his passing, but I am also re-experiencing this disenfranchised grief of losing my brother to severe mental illness, this has been so very isolating and traumatic for so long. My wound did not begin three weeks ago, and I can’t be bothered listening to their advice or stories or anything really. I’ve politely replied via text, but I cannot give anymore. I’m now 45 and my brother 46, our parents both passed. I have no interest in being consoled by those who have no idea, as I am not consoled during this, rather I’m listening to them. I haven’t quite found the words, I feel more ease in my solitude at present. Anyone else had a similar experience or thoughts.? Thank you

are you able to stay safe at the moment? it's great that you've been reaching out to 1800RESPECT as well, proud of you for taking those steps to feel supported.

Yes unfortunately the last time I called it dropped out and they can't return your call, I haven't bothered I need one on one im stuck i can go to government mental health walk in but I have anxiety i don't drive unless it's urgent and relationship australia are too expensive

I can see you are really needing more support right now, but that it's been hard to access. I totally get not feeling comfortable leaving the house and needing something affordable... would you consider telehealth at all? 💛

@MedicinalGypsy Have you checked out Someone.Health before? I hear they can support with bulk-billing and you can access their psychologists quite quickly!

I am so glad you have made contact with the recovery team. I hope you can get in, it's such a healing, supportive program. 🥰
