Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hey All

I'm on my recovery journey from depression and anxiety was off work for a couple of months and have started to get back into it. Of course with that comes anxiety and I am really trying to follow the process of exposure to my triggers which unfortunately was basically everything related to work but have slowly been adjusting.

I did a big exposure last week which was a presentation to a preety big audience let's say 30-40 people over zoom.

I had the huge adrenaline rush and come down afterwards which I was expecting. However in the week following I have had increased generalized anxiety and had a really rough day yesterday in terms of spiraling thoughts. Today doing a bit better have been really trying to keep doing despite how im feeling.

Just wanted to see if anyone had similar experiences in there recovery journey

Re: Hangover after anxiety exposure

hi @amonrae04

Have had a few down days, related to my responses when i have been let down. Im working on letting go, a very hard thing to do, mentally challenging myself to talk to myself ( must look strange) but to be more conscious and aware of root cause and my feelings. That they are valid, I'm allowed to "feel" but to acknowledge this to myself and then let it go.

Its been taking some work, but i "feel" im beginning to master it.

I have the best therapist , who is also working at the root of my issues, not just how i have responded now. It has had its challenges on me emotionally, but it has been much needed. Finally i have the self validation and starting to believe in a future me, instead of just being here (lol)

Ive also been listening to David Hawkins book - letting go on spotify, it has been interesting to hear so many issues that i have faced being addressed in the readings.

How are you?

@Justhere I've been preety good had some really challenging stuff come up at work and just dived in head first, breaking the avoidance pattern. Sounds like we are doing/trying similar things when I feel myself reacting I keep saying "pshycological flexible" ie I can adept to whatever comes up dosent have to be the way I want it. Hang in there! Good to hear your still on the right path

How you doing @Justhere I've unfortunately hit a rough patch had my anxiety trigger last week and has just been an ongoing since Saturday. Have managed to complete a very busy week of work despite that and attend a conference in the city last week so overall really proud of myself for preserving but God it's exhausting and emotionally draining really hoping that my nervous system just gets with the program soon 😂

@tymenot sure why but my post didn't work. Have had anxiety triggered again since last Saturday and it's been tough. Had a big week at work and managed to get through it all but it's been very emotionally draining and frustrating. Especially after feeling good for 3-4 weeks and then to feel like I've been dragged back to the beginning

Hi @amonrae04

its always hard when things build up and push back all the success. It is so good that you have been able to reach out and share this with the community.

Remember to focus on the "glimmers" sounds silly but they can be the littlest things that remind us of the gains and challenge those heavy things.

I am sure the rest of the community will have some fabulous ideas for you.

Take care

Mindee
