Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hey All

I'm on my recovery journey from depression and anxiety was off work for a couple of months and have started to get back into it. Of course with that comes anxiety and I am really trying to follow the process of exposure to my triggers which unfortunately was basically everything related to work but have slowly been adjusting.

I did a big exposure last week which was a presentation to a preety big audience let's say 30-40 people over zoom.

I had the huge adrenaline rush and come down afterwards which I was expecting. However in the week following I have had increased generalized anxiety and had a really rough day yesterday in terms of spiraling thoughts. Today doing a bit better have been really trying to keep doing despite how im feeling.

Just wanted to see if anyone had similar experiences in there recovery journey

Also tried to do things that moved towards my values which of course is my kids. I don't feel like doing anything but what's something I can do that moves towards that value @Mindee

Hey there @Justhere @amonrae04 @SillySausage @Appleblossom ,

Great to see you all.

@amonrae04 , that's amazing that you noticed all those things. I think noticing is an art. I wish I made more time to 'notice'... I reckon things would be quite different for me.

@amonrae04 sounds like you are doing it right. Include gentleness with yourself. Early in a teacher training program I was taught to look for the good. The Good enough parenting concept, I learned in the early 1990s in family therapy…

Good Morning @amonrae04

Although you feel so overwhelmed and stuck right now you have still taken the steps to share this with the forum. It takes courage to open up in this way when you know you really need support. That is some kind of movement, if not the pace you were hoping for.

Reading back over these posts of you sharing all you noticed the other day in your life really helped show this other part of your life that does give that bit of light at the end of the tunnel and even during it at times too.

Hoping the fantastic members of this forum can continue to give you some more ideas for coping as they wake up today.

I hear though that you feel you are challenged in coping and it’s okay to explore extra support options. If you are needing to talk to a counsellor you can call Lifeline to speak to one of their counsellors on 13 11 14.

Thanks @CuppaChamomile I called beyond blue and spoke to someone really great and while I don't feel amazingly better it did help. I've got a prebooked session with my therapist this morning at 9 and then I'm going to have a sleep

Re: Hangover after anxiety exposure

@amonrae04 I am glad your phone call helped and hope your session with the therapist went well. It’s pretty overwhelming being a parent. It usually takes everything we have. Sorry I was offline for a couple days.
