Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hey All

I'm on my recovery journey from depression and anxiety was off work for a couple of months and have started to get back into it. Of course with that comes anxiety and I am really trying to follow the process of exposure to my triggers which unfortunately was basically everything related to work but have slowly been adjusting.

I did a big exposure last week which was a presentation to a preety big audience let's say 30-40 people over zoom.

I had the huge adrenaline rush and come down afterwards which I was expecting. However in the week following I have had increased generalized anxiety and had a really rough day yesterday in terms of spiraling thoughts. Today doing a bit better have been really trying to keep doing despite how im feeling.

Just wanted to see if anyone had similar experiences in there recovery journey

Congrats! I think it's important to celebrate the successes along the way, no matter how big or small. For me, starting small and incrementally increasing those goals is what worked.

But I'm mindful we are all different in how we tackle things so it's important to find what works for you.

For me, once I'm in a good routine, I can build on my goal setting. At the moment, I have 5 sticky notes in front of me with tasks to complete.

HI @tyme and group,

had a good day yesterday speaking with my psychologist , who has referred me to a book 'Letting go - surrender - By Dr David Hawkins, ive been listening to it on Spotify.

Very interesting to hear, about our emotions and how we must learn to let them in to let them go, along with other thoughts and how to manage these.

Im gaining a lot through self discovery, along with u tube videos by Carl Jung and other professionals.

Im now permitted to have a bad thought and unpack how this impacts me at a deeper level to and take control of what is at the core and let the feeling come and leave.

It has been a good exercise for me, as the past two months i have felt out of control and this brought its own bad feelings of anger and dispair, now i feel i have some tools to help me to regain my sense of self , belonging and empowerment.

Still have some childhood and complex issues to resolve, but theses skills i hope will help me to feel , process and let go .

🙂

Hey @tyme thanks for checking in it's been a big week work has been busy for both myself and my wife so definently burning the candle at both ends fortunately today I have a preety low key day from a calendar perspective so I'm planning on getting some rest and recovery today. I have a preety big week next week to have a presentation coming up and some difficult conversations so that might be challenging but trying to be open to whatever emotions may come with that and it's for it to be tough I'm human not a robot.

How are you?

@Justhere the education component is huge and I keep trying to keep in mind that once I'm through this challenging part of life then I will have learnt alot of lessons for life and I'm sure you will have too! Well done

HI @amonrae04 , yes the lessons a good, applying them and remaining conscious is the challenge.

Its raising my anxiety, setting boundaries and being honest is so out of my comfort level, as a people pleaser in the past, i have always gone with the flow, even if it was not something i wanted to do.

It is also creating greater exhaustion, thinking, reflecting and self talk. Unpacking my suitcase is making my arms and shoulders heavy and tight.

Just hope im on the right pathway 🙂

@Justhere agree re the mental exhaustion I'm wrecked today and have had some headaches this week just from all the additional thinking required to get through the day I'm about to take a nap after a big week at work and I'm trying to be kind to myself that I deserve the break.

Re: Hangover after anxiety exposure

@amonrae04 , that is something i also forget to do is have a break. Trying hard to keep up with it all is exhausting. Like running a marathon .

Hope you enjoy some down time 🙂
