Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hey All

I'm on my recovery journey from depression and anxiety was off work for a couple of months and have started to get back into it. Of course with that comes anxiety and I am really trying to follow the process of exposure to my triggers which unfortunately was basically everything related to work but have slowly been adjusting.

I did a big exposure last week which was a presentation to a preety big audience let's say 30-40 people over zoom.

I had the huge adrenaline rush and come down afterwards which I was expecting. However in the week following I have had increased generalized anxiety and had a really rough day yesterday in terms of spiraling thoughts. Today doing a bit better have been really trying to keep doing despite how im feeling.

Just wanted to see if anyone had similar experiences in there recovery journey

Thanks @SillySausage they are indeed a god send have been using them for situational anxiety! Don't find them super helpful for hangover symptoms though unfortunately like general anxiety

Hey @amonrae04 ,

Bugga! Thought that might have been a new approach for you. I don't generally like to recommend medication first or on it's own without some sort of face to face therapy, but if you find it difficult to shake the black dog and or gitters for an extended period, usually around three months, or if you have experienced on and off anxiety since say adolescence, then perhaps you could discuss SSRI's and cognitive behavioral therapy with your health professional?

Again I could be preaching to the choir, but that generalised stuff that just hangs around can be so tiring, so I'll pitch you anything I can think of!

God bless.

Preaching to the choir in this case @SillySausage 🙂 long term user, switched to an SNRI in March which for the most part has given me good results just a bump in the road I guess. Have been really trying to follow the guidelines in this book called the anxious truth and disordered podcast (same person)

@tyme still activated just trying to continue on with life as normally as possible and do all the things that I would normally be doing, it's not pleasent most of the time but all you can do right

Re: Hangover after anxiety exposure

@tyme not sure why but my reply from thus morning not showing. Unfortunately it's triggered some consistent anxiety this week and just general fear my threat response is definently still activated but I'm just focusing on doing all the things I need to each day and getting through. Has been some tears for sure because it's not an easy thing to have but it's been good to have a cry and let the emotion of it out thanks for checking it's really nice of you

Re: Hangover after anxiety exposure

Hey @amonrae04 ,

Thank you for your response. It's great to hear that you are focussing on all the things you have to do as part of getting through each day. Do lists tend to work for you?

As for your posts, we are still working on some of the 'bugs' in the system. We are sorry for any inconvenience or anxiety this has caused. We are following up daily and the team is working on it.

As for the tears, I'm mindful how stressful things can be. Sometimes, crying can be a great release. Are there other things you engage in to help you stay grounded?

@tyme lists, calender and wife 😂I've been doing some breathing and meditation but also finding work to be a good distraction but it's also probably the cause of my anxiety it's a weird paradox

You're all set @amonrae04 🙂

I find lists so so helpful. I tend to have to physically write it down and then cross things of the list. It gives me a little adrenaline hit when I tick something off.
