How to challenge your negative thoughts

How to challenge your negative thoughts

Hi @Shaz51 @Emelia8 @Eve7 @rav3n @tyme and others reading along -

I have been diagnosed with BPD, cPTSD, depression, anxiety, eating disorder. I am also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse.

I saw my dr today and he has suggested that i try to 'challenge my thoughts'. I am at the moment on a huge downer with my depression - no motivation, no interest in much, can't be bothered, angry with myself etc etc etc and my negative thoughts are instant. Once these negative thoughts are with me I 'go with it' and it 'drags me into a spiral of negative self thoughts' (hope this makes sense!!)

my question is - how on earth do i challenge my negative thoughts?? That's not something i do myself because i get so absorbed by my own thoughts. It never occurs to me that i need to stop and challenge it.

If i am with my dr or psychiatrist and they point it out - then after a little while with them i can see it but don't believe it. (this is not making sense???)

i am struggling at the moment and don't know how to write this to you all

i get angry with my dr because he has no idea how hard it is to challenge those very strong negative thoughts

a lot of those thoughts have been ingrained in me since a child and a lot of them i believe to be true; the exact truth

Heya @BlueBay ,

That's okay if you didn't feel bothered to go out for a dinner.

What did you do at home instead?

So glad to see you. How Little A going?

Re: How to challenge your negative thoughts

hey @tyme

i ended up having home made fish and chips for dinner and had an early night. i was exhausted mentally and physically.

today i will have little A with me all day as she has no school and my daughter has a make up job for a wedding early this morning. we will go out for a coffee/hot chocolate and if the weather clears up we might go to the beach to look for shells. play in the playground and maybe lunch at the park/beach. oh she also asked if she can go and see my friend who has a little cavoodle and she loves her and wants to have some cuddles.

so i guess today will be a bit better than the past week.

hi @Jynx

wow those photos are amazing, i love them.

beaches are always relaxing for me; i am glad i live only 5 min from the beach

i ended up not taking little A to the beach as it was windy and i didn't feel good. i took her to the local library as she loves reading and i almost fainted. my BP has been reducing to much lower than my normal. so we came home and rested and she did some drawings with stickers that i had bought her this morning.

she's gone home now so i am going to rest up tonight.

hope you are well and have a good friday night xx

Aww yay @BlueBay glad you enjoyed! And good move, the beach is a lot less fun when it's too windy!! Sounds like a wholesome evening, glad you're resting now 💜

Hey @BlueBay , How amazing that you could have Little (No-so-little) A with you! I'm sure she loves you.

And fish and chips! Yum! I had fish and chips today too!

I love the photos Jynx sent. Truly reminds me to be grateful... just grateful for everything.

Always great to see you @BlueBay

hi @tyme

it's so funny, i bought a few cheapy art stuff for little A. I asked her which one she likes. she says 'it's ok nonna you don't have to buy me anything'. in the afternoon she thanked me so many times and said but nonna you shouldn't spend your money!! such a sweetheart!!!

last week her step dad bought her a $300 bike. she thanked him so so so many times; wrote him a beautiful card of thanks and put her own $10 she had in her wallet in his card (to pay back for the bike)!!!

she is such a thoughtful, empathetic girl. always caring for others.

my BP is still low so i am taking it easy today. hope you are well, have a nice day.
