Tillogram

Hi All

@tyme @AuntGlow @Jynx @rav3n @MJG017 @NightFury @Shaz51 @MissGremlin @Appleblossom @Dimity and many others I have accidentally forgotten to tag

Just letting people know I am back safely from my trip.

I had a great trip, my sport event was brilliant and then I travelled a little bit.

Not sure how much engagement I will have with forums as only just returned to this cold weather!

I'm not sure what's been happening, but I hope everyone is well.

Re: Tillogram

Thanks for you post @Ru-bee especially since I think you are flying solo this evening. It's a bit annoying that the post disappeared, but not the end of the world, of course, and now time has gone past it's probably irrelevant now anyhow.

I'm not sure I'm particularly resourceful with my own MH - although I have some theoretical understanding.

Just putting one foot in front of the other.

Re: Tillogram

Hello my dear @Till23 ! Great to see you!

Thank you for your questions. I'll respond as best I can:

1. I know Sane have webinars that people in Guided Recovery service go to, but I was wondering if other people can attend those Webinars, and if so, how do you find out what's on and when?

I believe you are referring to the Recovery Club. This is a 6 month program. Once you sign up, you will have your own portal where you can pick from a range of recovery topics related to the CHIME recovery framework. You can pick as many or as few of these topics to attend and they run throughout the day e.g. (11:30, 1pm, 4:30pm). These are not really webinars. They are interactive groups via Zoom. YOu can have your camera on or off and participate as little or much as you'd like.

2. You posted some of your own story of recovery in responding to some one else, when I read it, I thought I would revisit because I thought it had some things that might be applicable and helpful to me, but I can't remember which thread it was in

Oooo. That's a tough one becuase my entire role as been about sharing my own lived experience. Anything in particular part you are interested in? My experiences range from CPTSD, BPD, public health, PARCs, case management, Mentalisation based therapy, ACT/DBT, private psychologist, studies, work... if you have an inkling of what you are after, I can perhaps direct you to the thread, or simply share it again?

3. Although there currently appears to be a shortage of PSWs on forums. when I click on the link about helping ouy Sane, it says not currently recruiting for PSW - it may be that there are plenty in training but just not on forums yet.

SANE has about 80% of its work force identify as having lived experience. PSW roles may be in Guided Recovery, Recovery Club or the forums. As this stage, we don't have a recruitment running for the forums as we have a team of moderators being trained up. However, when we do, I can certainly share it with you.

I saw Uni of Sunshine Coast has a grad cert/diploma has a course on MH and neuroscience that sounds interesting, but it may not be applicable to PSW. I think there is a course that is recommended if you want to do PSW

Currently, the only recognised course for Peer work is Certificate 4 in Mental Health Peer Work. This focuses on Peer Work.

However, if you have other qualifications in a relevant field, you may also be able to do peer work - provided you have lived experience of having mental health challenges or caring for someone with complex mental health.

Hope the above is helpful!

Re: Tillogram

Hey @Till23 , your post didn't disappear. It's there and I've responded 🙂

I just want to say that often you feel that you dont 'deserve' to use the resources. I can relate to that because that is what I said in the past. However, my psych helped me to understand that the services are there to be used and if you don't use them, someone else will. He then went on to say, you don't call/use a service if you don't need it. People don't just do it 'for fun'. And therefore, if you use it, it means you need it.

You are just as able to access those services as anyone else. Please don't think less of yourself.

Thoughts?

Hi @AuntGlow @tyme I posted on this thread at about 8pm on Wednesday night. Or just after @tyme replied to my message I think it was around 8pm

My post has completely disappeared. It was there and then I edited it at about 10.15pm when I realised the PSWs would have logged off, so what I wrote had become irrelevant - now post is gone.

Have you been into "Settings" on your forums account? There is a list of 'DRAFTs' there. Is you lost post sitting there?

Re: Tillogram

Hi @tyme I can't find a place where I can access "Drafts"

I posted a reply to you after the one where your last line is

"Any way, besides that, anything in particular you want to chat about tonight?"

Yes, if I don't use a service, someone else will - there are not infinite resources, I should be able to sort out things enough myself and not take the resources away from the other people who may not have the self-resources that I have.

As for the forums, I see you PSWs answering the other threads and I can see how busy you are and some of those other people are quite distressed, so shouldn't the limited PSW resources be directed toward them?

Re: Tillogram

I'll have a look @Till23 to see if I can see any drafts.

Did you want to chat about your apppointment today?

Also, with the forums staffing, I hear your concerns. Yes, we do respond to members, but ideally, this space is a place for members to respond to members. Hence we have community guides.

Peer workers 'hang out' here when we are not attending to other things. But in an ideal peer space, the community can run on it's own without peer suport workers (moderators are different).

It wasn't only all that long ago that peer workers didn't exist here. It was purely moderators. @Shaz51 would know.

Re: Tillogram

Yes, just Moderators and Community guides like me @Till23 , @tyme

The CG'S, we had our own thread and ongoing training

Re: Tillogram

Thanks @tyme for your response

1. Can anyone sign up for Recovery Club or are there criteria?

2.I think I have found the posts that I was looking for, they are in response to someone who made a thread on 15th of July called "How to challenge your negative thoughts"

Yes, anyone. Feel free to have a look 🙂 https://www.sane.org/recovery-club

Feel free to let me know if there is any thing in particular you are wanting to know. I've got a lifetime's supply of lived experience lol (just like everyone else here!)

3. I have bachelors degrees in clinical healthcare and have a masters in public health. And of course I have lived experience. Which includes hospitalisation and suicide attempts, chronic SI, cPTSD with dissociation, depression and anxiety

That's certainly great to have all this knowledge! If you wanted something in peer work, the Cert 4 is available. Otherwise, you could probably apply for jobs with your current qualifications. Depends on the service/organisation and what they are looking for. Some services like peer workers to have Intentional Peer Support training and ASIST (suicide intervention) training. Then other training is sort of once you join an organisation.

Re: Tillogram

Yes @tyme Appleblossom has mentioned that PSW were not a thing early on in the forums.

I realise that the PSWs can't be everywhere and I would often respond to new contributors if a PSW hadn't for a while, because I thought it would help them to feel "someone" was there and that the forums were a worthwhile space to utilise

I have sort of fallen into chatting with a couple of people with whom I have some similarities and hopefully that has been helpful for them.

I remember early on in my membership I supported a member with a group of others who passed away from cancer (I think the member support for that person, which they said they appreciated, showed me the power of peer support (from ordinary members). There I met a person who also had lived experience of cancer and we have been chatting ever since and that member says they find our chats helpful and I definitely do find chats with them very helpful. We never tag PSWs on that thread.

Recently I have been chatting with a member in Yarning Space again because we have similarities.

Even though I am quite busy because "doing things" is a way I manage my MH, I should do a bit more of chatting in other threads. I do try to get to social threads for a bit.

Yes the moderators are essential of course
