Tillogram

Hi All

@tyme @AuntGlow @Jynx @rav3n @MJG017 @NightFury @Shaz51 @MissGremlin @Appleblossom @Dimity and many others I have accidentally forgotten to tag

Just letting people know I am back safely from my trip.

I had a great trip, my sport event was brilliant and then I travelled a little bit.

Not sure how much engagement I will have with forums as only just returned to this cold weather!

I'm not sure what's been happening, but I hope everyone is well.

Re: Tillogram

@tyme @Shaz51 I find psychology very interesting.. I think there are two aspects.. I do not think people are born with an enduring personality, I think personality is shaped by the experiences in your life. There's also temperament that you are born with and I think introversion is in the temperament basket.

Yeah, I try not to think about the future, because of what is going to happen as I get older and unable to look after myself. Unfortunately I have been thinking about that future since being at Dad's, and it hasn't been helpful for my MH

Thank you both for chatting. I know you are finishing tyme and I have to get up early to go to training, so better log off. .

Re: Tillogram

"so all the @tyme's, @Till23's and @Shaz51's in the world... what happens then?"

Well, I hope I continue to meet the people in the world like you all. Especially if i get to meet them in my face to face life. I prefer/click with the introverts and the people who understand that life isnt always sunshine and rainbows and that one cant just "soldier on" alone all the time (and shouldnt be expected to shoulder it all alone).

I too don't plan to have children. Thankfully i have never felt the want to have my own; i suspect i physically would be unable to even if i were mentally able to.

I'd love the world to be full of people like you.

I'd love to be able to sit alongside and just sit and do my own thing too.

Re: Tillogram

@Till23 feel most welcome to ask about my personal experience with TMS.

If it is encouraging, my adverse reaction to it was not any long-lasting problem and returned back to normal a little while after i stopped the treatment.

I found the actual treatment time quite relaxing. Although i know the physical sensation for some people, or the noise of the machine (clicking), can be uncomfortable to sit with due to sensory things. Earplugs can be used if the sound is irritating 😊. I can't imagine there would be any problem with having music or an audiobook etc playing to listen to if not using earplugs.

Research into it is always a good thing. The pdoc had a no-obligation meeting with me when i first enquired to explain the pros and cons and costs and explain anything i wanted to know and to ask any questions.

I wonder if having an open conversation about this with the TMS pdoc prior to making a decision would be helpful?

Thanks for sharing here @AlwaysMyself . People think i'm an extrovert, but I'm really not.

Hey @Till23

Re: Tillogram

Yes @Till23 ! I've often had that discussion. I actually wrote a thesis on it may moons ago. That is, the idea that we are born with a temperament but ultimately, our personality is framed by our experiences. For example, I've seem myself move between different personality characteristics. I looked at the DISC model only recently and I can see that I've changed from being quite placid and easy going to being quite dominant... and I'm sure it will change later in life too.

Have you ever done the DOPE personality test? https://richardstep.com/dope-personality-type-quiz/dope-bird-4-personality-types-test-questions-online-version/

In my head, I have guessed your personality type - I may be wrong 🙂

Re: Tillogram

@tyme many people assume i am an extrovert too. They dont see the mental/energy crash afterwards lol or the effort to make small-talk during. But i am conflicted because i like being around quiet introverted thoughtful people, and want that type of connection more than most introverts do.

Never heard of DOPE before..

Interesting... i found that one quite hard to do... mostly because often i am either none or mutiple of the options 😅. And some of their definitions are now how i would describe that word either, for example "assertive" 🤔.

Re: Tillogram

Yes! I found the DOPE test hard too. I just had to go with the one that is most closely aligned. I ended up mainly eagle which I think is definitely true. This DOPE test aligns with the DISC model too @AlwaysMyself

Re: Tillogram

Hi @tyme @AlwaysMyself Hope you are both well.. Thank you both for responding.. I took that test just now as well and I also found it quite difficult because as you say, sometimes I think that none of the options is the right fit and other times it's difficult to choose one because none seem to be correct.

Many people also think I am an extrovert and sometimes I am deliberately chatty etc so I can steer the conversation away from certain topics. But I then need alone time to recover. I also need to have a "safe haven"like my home so I can just be me.

I am better with one-on-one or two with like-minded people.

.

Currently I am doing a lot of things trying to distract myself

.

I looked at the DISC model as well. I don't really believe much in personality types, I thinks it's kind of a spectrum, and their are many combinations. Some people, particular at the extremes seem to fit a "type" but you never know what's going on underneath.

It's interesting that you wrote a thesis on "personality" @tyme, were you studying psychology or something similar?

With the TMS @AlwaysMyself I used to do research as one of my careers, so I know the sources to go to and especially the things to avoid.

I am also going to have a kind of ïntake" type session where I'll be able to ask questions etc. I have had a number of MRIs for cancer and my inflammatory/immune disease so I'm used to noisy machines next to my head.

Thank you for the interesting conversation and things to consider

Re: Tillogram

Yes, I was studying psychology. The thesis was on the Big 5 and the impact of environmental factors on personality. So it was totally aligned to what you were saying @Till23

With the personality types, it's not set in stone. It gives people the opportunity to be aware of their natural tendencies and also helps people lean into others and how to work with those with different personalities. We actually have some of each personality, and as you said, it can change depending on context.

But yes, I'm a bit like you. I'm generally an introvert, but I connect with kids a lot. Then at the end of the day, i just need to be home, alone to decompress.

When are you having those tests? It's not at this moment, right?

Re: Tillogram

@tyme that’s great, I find psychology so interesting.. I’ve thought of studying it just out of interest..By the Big 5 do you mean OCEAN?

I am not having any MRIs etc for my cancers or my other illness currently. I have had a few in the past though. I still have tests for cancer just to make sure I don’t have any recurrence or new ones, but they are only annually and not MRIs.
I find kids a bit difficult, I think because I don’t know what is “normal” for kids and I am not used to them. I suppose I’m afraid of doing or saying the “wrong” thing.
