Something’s not right

my therapist yelled at me

my therapist yelled at me

My therapist told me there were only 2 reasons I could email them - 1) if I was feeling unsafe 2) rescheduling sessions/format of session

I replied and said okay, no more emails, but I said I could think of other situations where email was required, because some admin, like requesting info etc - needs to be done in writing

I didn't check, but apparantly he sent me a long, dysregulated email in response.
He then called me ( i didn't answer)

He called me an hour later ( i didn't answer).

Finally I thought, why is he calling me - he never does that? So I called back.

He answers (no greeting) - Yes, Eternalflower - and launches into an aggressive, threatening tirade, berating me - for

1) annoying him when he asked me to stop emailng him

2) also NOT emailing him when I had an attempt on my life last week

3) Going too extreme now and stopping email entirely - which he never said - he said only REASONABLE emails and when I'm unsafe

4) saying all drs are taught that they don't correspond with patients except in emergency

5) when i said I know my GP and I do correspond outside of sessions and so do other professionals i've worked with in the last few years, and all drs are different in my view -

6) he said if there's some wacky dr who doesn't keep the rules i shouldn't compare him to them, and he's told me to report such drs to AHPRA

7) asked me the name of these Drs and then added, "if they even exist"

😎 generally insulted me, saying i'm "rewriting the narrative" "playing games" etc

9) screamed at me violently for 28 minutes straight

10) asked for a written apology ?

yada yada yada

so yeah

therapy sucks ya'll and so does humanity.

Re: my therapist yelled at me

How long have you known him @EternalFlower ?

I am ambivalent at the moment about a decision re NDIS. It is not always easy, and sometimes better options are not always available.

@EternalFlower

You need to do what you need to do. Nobody really knows what is best for another.

I am adjusting to the NDIS changes. I have lost my Osteopath, who I had for over 20 years. I gave her a good recommendation so now my support worker goes to her, so maybe that is fair. I am happy with my physio, so she is helping manage my physical issues. I am not really complaining for myself, the main reason I am upset is the failures of the systems for my son, and other family members who have passed.

It is my support co-ordinator who I am doubtful about, who puts in little digs, and minimal effort. Then there are benefits to longevity in the relationship, and sometimes the devil we know, is better than the devil we don’t.

Re: my therapist yelled at me

@EternalFlower Don't be ashamed, quite frankly it took a heap of courage to go back there, he should be grateful that you were willing to hear his apology. As you said, it's short term until you find someone more suitable. After my incident with my psych, I changed to a clinical psych (as recommended by my psychiatrist and union lawyers) and I haven't looked back.

Re: my therapist yelled at me

@EternalFlower did you have to pay to get yelled at?

Re: my therapist yelled at me

@Glisten I texted him that I'm not coming back and he called me to apologise and we spoke for 50 minutes. He didn't charge for that and said if I needed a break he wouldn't charge for cancellation but I did indeed return, and paid for the session.

His prices are reasonable though.

Re: my therapist yelled at me

Hi @Former-Member it's short term as I need to gather my strength and have been super depressed lately and can't think who else to see.

That sounds like a good decision. Are u happy with your psychiatrist and clinical psychologist?

Re: my therapist yelled at me

I wonder if he was going through this own sh*t @EternalFlower

Re: my therapist yelled at me

@EternalFlower my clinical psychologist is amazing, I been given tasks and we are working on my triggers, where with my general psychologist it was pretty much just a venting session, which after 2 years showed no improvement. In regards to my psychiatrist I don't have one as yet, the one I saw was part of a workcover review, but I do have my first appointment with one at the end of July. Personally I'm not looking forward to it as I don't want any more meds.

Re: my therapist yelled at me

hi @Former-Member @Glisten @Appleblossom i have to be real with myself as I don't honestly have a therapist now besides him and i need his help in at least the short term

I want to go to PARC and can't get in so I am told he can also send a referral as he is a psychiatrist by training. I need access to referrals and support.

I also think he's trustworthy in that he told me he'll record in his notes that he yelled at me - he will tell the truth about what happened. A lot of therapists lie. They just do. Also in the public system. They lie. Also here even, unfortunately. Life isn't easy. It can feel very disappointing to have something you experienced misrepresented by someone who has more power and doesn't understand trauma, or thinks that what they live through or understand it as is the only lens to view things. It can feel invalidating.

At least this man told the truth about what happened.

I have also engaged VMIAC to help me with advocacy - they are an awesome service in my state. Hope they can help. I'm trying to get in to care and fight back against my case management team and have my voice heard but at the moment the therapist is my only ongoing care that reliably and consistently shows up
