Something’s not right

New chapter

New chapter

So I’ve come off one of my meds, it’s the first day I’ve been without it for years. I feel so much calmer, but a bit foggy, sleepy and migrainey. Not sure if that’s withdrawal or exhaustion built up from the really rough patch I’ve come out of. I can finally say I’m not in a mixed episode. I’m sort of unfazed by the body flashback I’m having. I’m just a little confused. Has the discomfort become easier to sit with (is it a sign of progress?) or am I disassociating?

I hear you, and that's such a vulnerable place to be in. It would be really, really tough. 💛

How are things feeling for you today? @creative_writer

@AuntGlow I’m physical unwell right now, the migraine intensity has gotten worse, it was more manageable earlier in the day. Sleep deprivation can trigger migraines, I probably need sleep. Sleep will probably be good for my mental health too. I am pacing around a lot, even though I know that’s not going to help with the physical pain, just have lots of nervous energy. Nervous energy usually settles with adequate sleep. I’ll probably have an early night today.

How are you doing?

Re: New chapter

@creative_writer i hear you with the sleep!! hoping it gets better this week.

yesss i get what you mean. my parents have shared their doubts about me working in the mental health field and i hated hearing it from them. but i think our vulnerability is often a strength, and we think and feel deeper than others, and sometimes that makes us 'intuitive' in our practice, which is not an easy skill to come by.

ooft yes - the self-sacrificing nature that gets drilled into us takes time to unlearn!
that's so fair, myself and a lot of other south asians i've talked to have said similar things about not telling their parents everything. our parents aren't always 'ready' to hear things, and i've found that it is better spending that energy on people who will listen. i'm glad you have autonomy over what you wear/how you present yourself - having that control is so important. you shouldn't have to live in fear, i hate that racism still persists. you deserve to feel safe wearing what's comfortable to you.

@rav3n while my parents never shared doubts about me working in mental health. I have certainly felt a therapist I once saw did. I think it’s really important to identify client strengths. As you said, vulnerability can be strength. Empathy and vulnerability and intertwined.

I completely agree that parents aren’t always ready to hear things, and it makes so much more sense to talk to someone who is able to hold the space. The reality is not everyone can hold that space, and that’s okay. I’ve had my parents worry about me going in public with a hijab because it makes look obviously Muslim. There is a lot hate, there has been historically, and now with the conflict in the Middle East. I also get mistaken for Middle Eastern a lot. It is a shame that racism is still prevalent and so many people have felt unsafe

As someone who had a terrible migraine from lack of sleep last night, I completely hear you - it's really painful and overwhelming. I am sorry you are experiencing this. Lots of rest and hydration will help. Although, I know it might be hard to focus on those things with so much anxious energy living in the body. I am wondering if you can have a warm shower? This may help with grounding and some migraine relief?

Here for you, and really hoping your body and mind allow you to rest tonight @creative_writer. 💛

@AuntGlow migraine is better today, my sleep was also better, not perfect but better. I have rested up today and haven’t actually done much, probably too exhausted. I’ve had a shower, made some lunch, put some laundry. Haven’t done job related stuff today

Re: New chapter

I keep getting repetitive trauma thoughts over and over again. I think it’s both ptsd and ocd related. Maybe I need to learn to observe the thoughts instead of getting consumed by them, but it is a difficult process. Maybe it’ll get easier, but right now it’s difficult

Re: New chapter

Hello lovely! Yes, observing the intrusive thoughts and not engaging is key, but it is genuinely very challenging, so please be kind to yourself whilst you are rewiring those pathways. I know coming to the body can be tough for you, but what do you think it needs to feel more soothed and safe right now? 💛 @creative_writer

@AuntGlow I’m in my warm bed right now. I feel safer in bed and it’s been cold today

Re: New chapter

I am really happy to know you are feeling safer in bed. If you can, try to list 5 things you are grateful for that happened today. You don't need to share them with me, but it's a really nice way to end your evening and may even help how you wake up. @creative_writer 💛
