I really regret filing for an IVO

I really regret filing for an IVO

So on Thursday evening I decided to file a IVO against my mum. I applied it online via our state’s magistrates court website. The application hasn’t been formally processed/assessed yet since it was during after hours, plus yesterday was a public holiday. Now, the following morning (yesterday morning) it seems that I was able to settle things with my mum after she explained so many things to me (she was saying all of these from a place of care even when I’ve expressed to her many times that I do NOT wish to be in a relationship or potentially marry someone she tries to introduce me with just because she wants me to connect with people so bad) via messenger after I kept arguing with her over it. And the things she said actually made me reconsider…and thought about withdrawing/revoking my IVO application. I thought, maybe I should actually be more open to meeting the guy that she just introduced me with via messenger on Thursday afternoon. So I applied to revoke the order online through the same website yesterday evening.

Ever since last night, I haven’t been able to get any sleep since throughout all those hours (though I took breaks in between) I kept googling for answers with several different related questions after I’ve read that you still need to attend court hearing even after you’ve applied to revoke your application. That really made me scared and broke my heart, as I’m now scared what my mums gonna think and feel about it all. But I also don’t want her to experience that much level of anxiety as much as I do… 😞

They’ll still call me and my mum about the application as well as a requirement for us to attend a court hearing in the next couple of business days unfortunately. 😭

The reason I applied for the IVO was because the situation I’ve mentioned to numerous services in the past 2-3 months they all provided this as one of the options (even if that means that my mum and I aren’t allowed to be in contact with each other ever again), so I now decided to go for it, thinking that it’ll be fine if my mum and I aren’t allowed to be in contact with each other after the application has been processed/assessed by the court… but thinking about that now I regret applying for it and would like for us to remain in contact 😞 but since I’ve applied to revoke the order, I really hope with the evidence I can provide to the magistrate to show that there really was a ‘change of circumstances’ or whatever can make them revoke/dismiss my application.

I’ve consulted with a paid lawyer though and he’s doing his best to get things sorted for me on Tuesday when the court opens again, to see if he’ll be able to get my application dismissed BEFORE the court processes the application. Praying that this’ll be the case for Tuesday 🙏🙏🙏

I’ve been severely stressed out and crying at the thought of having to go to court but also the thought of my mum and I not allowed to talk to each other as part of the requirement now really breaks my heart... But again, I really hope my lawyer will be able to get it dismissed before the court actually processes the application.🙏😭

this time I’m trying to calm down a bit after having a chat to another lawyer about it and him trying his best to reassure me and encourage me to stay positive and to wait for Tuesday

Re: I really regret filing for an IVO (update?)

@Jynx @well at first I was really angry and upset that she did this to me. Also, when I said that she introduced me to him on the messenger chat, I mean that she sent me pictures of what he looks like and giving me some background info about him. she told me that his parents are rich (so I assume he easily gets his money from his parents that are willing to pay rent for him and stuff in Australia since he migrated from Cambodia to here to come and study). Generally in our ethnic culture, it’s standard for Cambodian men to provide things on behalf of his partner and stuff (including financially)… but I doubt that he even follows that kind of rule anymore considering that he lived in the city areas in Cambodia (I would assume) so ummmm…

and my mum did say to me many times that she wants me to connect with people that I can easily talk to and hang out with as well as being able to travel around the world with as well and everything. 🤷‍♀️ I mean I guess yea since when I travelled alone last year there were a number of challenges I’ve experienced whilst being overseas and those times I feel like wanting to cry from it.

I haven’t met him yet so it’s hard to assume or tell whether he gives off a certain vibe or not. But I sure hope he does. Cause a lot of Cambodian people I’ve met here at my uni last year all seem like great people based on the vibes and that they’ve all give off I guess. And yes he’s like my age and he’s gonna become an international student here in Australia.

@Jynx How have you been today so far?

In reality, I’m continuing to cry out of frustration everytime I think about my mum taking my sense of freedom and choices away for something that in her opinion is ‘necessary’ for me.

She’s brought up about her and my dad getting old part as well and that I need someone to live with and look up to if my parents pass AND if I were to have health issues when I get old too, but….what about for every other adults in their 30s/40s/50s etc. out there that are single though?? Yet she doesn’t wanna accept that I choose to remain single just because of those things that she herself fears of.

@Blackcloud you have every right to feel frustrated then hun!! Like playing matchmaker is okay if you want that but it sounds like you really don't!! I think you're allowed to decide for yourself whether you think that particular type of relationship is for you or not!!

Remaining single is totally valid imo!

@Jynx @Yet I question way too many times on why I was being biologically assigned to the ethnicity I was born with since birth, especially when parents like mine have values that don’t align with mine to the point that they (my mum especially) want or need to apply those values onto me, leading to me to continue suffering emotionally and mentally. Like seriously?!?!😑😑😑

Re: I really regret filing for an IVO (update?)

None of us choose to be born @Blackcloud but we get to choose what we do with the life we're given. No family, society, or cultural group can ultimately take that from us if we don't want it to. It's hard when we are wired to survive through our social relationships, but the modern day does have a benefit no other time period really has - the freedom to choose., You can choose new family, new society, new culture - if you want to!

I'm queer, chosen family means the world to me 😉

@Jynx if only life was that simple for me lol. But the thing is, it ain’t. 🙃🖤 hardest thing/part in the world is that I have to keep living through it even if that means I’ll continue crying over it every single day.

@Blackcloud aye it's never simple is it. But we can be there for each other throughout it all!! 💜
