Talking through trauma and PTSD

Safe Now

Safe Now

I went and saw my psychologist yesterday. We talked about some of my trauma stuff in both yesterday’s session and the session before it. Now I am here today having to reassure myself that I am safe now!

Re: Safe Now

@Oaktree I have had very unsettling dreams in the past. I wonder if beginning the EMDR unlocked some trauma feelings rather than memories. The unconscious mind can have its own ways of processing stuff. It's great you recognise that the dream didn't actually happen but maybe what is important is the feelings and potential threat situation. Go gently with yourself while you stabilise. Maybe you pushed similar feelings down in the past. I know that is how I coped

Push all feelings down. Definitely don't talk about them cos nobody cared. Maybe in your current situation your unconscious is sensing you are safe enough for it to release stuff and the dream is the mechanism.

All kudos to you for persevering with your course. Get whatever extensions or certificates as you need.

Being well isn't like an on/off switch though some days can be clearer than others. Often it is in the doing... regardless... That can really help. It is very much and individual thing though. Sometimes we can push ourselves a bit and other times we really need to listen to our bodies and our inner spirit.

Like today I admitted I was "walking wounded" but still played the organ at church. If I waited till I was completely "well" I'd be waiting for a long time. It was imperfect. I admit it but apparently it was good enuff.

Thanks @Appleblossom

Yeah I think my subconscious is trying to process stuff. It’s just unsettling as it happens.
Well done you for playing in Church

Re: Safe Now

I used to have relatively frequent nightmares @Oaktree They have become less frequent over the years. However

I’d say it’s very possible EMDR is causing an increase for you. Hopefully, as you deal with each memory and the memories are “filed” properly in your brain, they will diminish

Re: Safe Now

Oh hun @Oaktree . I'm so sorry to hear this. When you have these thoughts, do you find there is anything in particular that is helpful?

@tyme

Nothing is working. I have given up. Lying down having a rest. I don’t know whether to tell my psychologist everything or not. It’s pretty hard to talk about, The therapy might have worked a little but obviously not a lot

Awww @Oaktree ..

I'm so so sorry this has happened. I hope your treating team can work with you to find something that works.

I'm also mindful that talking therapy can be different depending on the approach. Please don't give up.

Sitting with you.

Re: Safe Now

Thanks @tyme

We are trying EMDR but my psych says I am avoiding the memory. In between sessions its all I can think about. I just took a pill for the anxiety. It will probably just make me sleepy

Re: Safe Now

Do you still feel you are ready to proceed with the treatment @Oaktree ? Only a thought. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't go ahead with it.
