The Sane Cattery: Because normal is overrated

The Sane Cattery: Because normal is overrated

Welcome to The Sane Cattery, the totally rational, completely normal place where we - totally sane humans - gather to admire our feline overlords. This is a judgment-free zone (unless your cat is the one doing the judging, which, let’s be honest, they always are). Feel free to share photos of your majestic moggies, chaotic kitties, and everything in between. Whether they’re plotting world domination, defying the laws of physics, or simply loafing like sentient bread, we want to see them. Because nothing says "sane" like dedicating an entire discussion to our tiny, furry dictators.

Allow me to begin...

Here is our oldest, Roughy who is 9.

Ryker, who is 7. Trying to convince himself he still fits in this thing like a glove!

And the latest edition, Luna (14 weeks)

...and another one of Luna, 'cause she's so damn cute.

I have been instructed to say that she was in no way stuck, and was just testing my responsiveness.

Re: The Sane Cattery: Because normal is overrated

@Dimity my cat Gypsy was first mums' and because she had just lost her other cat, Gypsy was getting lonely and looking for the other cat. Mal (MM - MurderMittens) was used to having another cat too when we were living with my ex friend so mum suggested Gypsy come live with MM and they live in semi harmony. MM is a turd though and tries to assert himself so he gets told off frequently when trying to box Gypsy into a corner. "Mal you turd, leave her alone!" is usually what he gets.
Gypsy is 17 and has arthritis too, but she manages it well, jumping in and out of the bath easily. She'll only drink water from the bath tap while we are at home. I have purchased several different water fountains for her and she never used them, at least not that I ever saw. When there's nobody home I have no doubt she uses the water bowl in the kitchen just like a normal cat.

MM is still a youngster, he'll be 13 in August and being a) a Ragdoll and b) a Redpoint, or a ginger, he is about as sharp as a bowling ball.

He is my wingless angel though and I adore him. If I could register him as an emotional support animal I would.

@ENKELI MM sounds as though he might have looks but not brains. It's good he and Gypsy mostly get on. When I've had 2 cats or even 3 they've mostly ignored each other. When the 3rd was introduced, the other 2 were stressed for a while.

I had a little black and white mog who'd drink from the tap in the bathroom basin. I still miss her although it's been years. Several little boys in the neighbourhood brought her to me as a kitten and asked me to take her in. All my cats have come from other people.

@Dimity that's the same as me. I got my first cat, Cloud, from the RSPCA and Loki from Cat Haven (mum and I were there to get her a cat, I ended up with one instead!) and the rest were all "hand me downs". Mal's previous owners split up and they claimed they couldn't take him with them. The boyfriend suggested they just let him loose (they lived on a main highway) even though he was the one who had got Mal in the first place. I understood why the girlfriend was dumping him!

I was meant to have him, he's definitely been a gift from God when I have needed comfort.

Glad Mal has been your saving grace @ENKELI .

Tiger isn't particularly insightful or empathetic but he's been good company . He arrived soon after my dad died. Not that Dad was insightful or empathetic either... oh well.

@Dimity my bestie, whose nickname is the Crazy Cat Lady, has 8 cats. One of her friends had cancer and before she passed away she told bestie that she wanted to come back as one of her cats.
Bestie was involved in a feral trap, neuter and release programme and one night when she was out putting out food for the cats, this little kitten came up to her car and started meowing at her. Bestie said she knew it was a sign and kept the kitten, naming it after her friend.

I think sometimes animals are put in our lives at times when we need them. Your cat being the same personality as your dad for example...!

MM and my other Ragdoll Dinah have been the only cats that have been affectionate, the rest couldn't care less so long as I fed them! And Loki proved he could get his own food if necessary.

Tiger is very conversational but not all that affectionate @ENKELI .

He has ear infections at present and is hard to medicate by myself.

Loki and Mal sound very different.

Huh @Mustang67 ? How does a cat respond to THAT?
