Something’s not right

Don’t want to accept the pain

Don’t want to accept the pain

Why can’t I pretend the pain isn’t real, maybe if I tell myself I’m okay and I don’t struggle with mental health I’ll be okay. Maybe if I tell myself that the traumatic memories aren’t real, then I can finally feel whole and less gross. Maybe I’ll just wake up from this dream soon and I’ll find peace within my mind when I do wake up. Maybe I’m okay, maybe there isn’t anything wrong with me

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer you alone in the house at the moment?

Going out to eat sounds nice 😊

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx no I’m not alone at home. I do feel lonely, but I am not alone.

I was thinking of eating the freshly home made baked chicken. My family will eat out. Heavy feeling in stomach makes eating hard

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx it was good, but breaking it hurt my hand. What are you having for dinner?

I feel more calm now, I just hope it lasts. I’m sort of worried about coping with Lifeline volunteer work with how my mental state has been. I found the content triggering this week. I know there is still a month till I actually speak to helpseekers on placement. I’m doubting myself. Like I want to be useful and help others, but I feel so useless 😢

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

Don't forget @creative_writer listening to or reading about something is different to the experience of being in conversation, in relationship with a person sharing their story. Different social codes in our brains (not info processing mode, relational mode I guess? Don't quote me on this lol) and probably the adrenaline and stuff going on - entirely different situation, so you have no way of knowing that you'll get triggered based simply on how you're doing in the training, no?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx that is true. But I had to previously leave Lifeline before since I did get triggered. Maybe it’ll be different this time, because I am older and have more coping strategies. It is a 9-5 job thing, it’s only 4 hrs per fortnight. I am probably more worried about doing a 9-5 job in a psych ward. I see grad jobs advertised in hospitals, people say it’s good experience, but I don’t know if I can do it. Though I’m applying for jobs that I don’t know if I have the capacity to do

@creative_writer Do you have a fair idea as well around the things that have a tendency to leave you feeling heightened? Probably scary to think about but could be helpful

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx SA can be pretty triggering, especially if I’m feeling more vulnerable. I am having a flashback tonight 😢.

SI plans and attempts details can be triggering if I am in that vulnerable point, otherwise SI is manageable.

I wish I didn’t get triggered so easily. Maybe I’m just more vulnerable right now. I’m feeling everything more. Do you think it’ll ever get to the point I’m no longer as triggered by other people’s stories? Will the flashbacks go away?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer I could easily say so hun but, perhaps it's not for me to do so - perhaps it's a chance for you to offer hope to yourself, to remind yourself that you are not the exception to the rule, and that walking your path of recovery is going to help you reach these goals!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I want so much more with life, but sometimes it’s hard to see beyond the chaos in my mind. I want to not feel broken. I think I had become so career focused last year, I didn’t slow down enough to take care of myself. I wanted the degree over and done with, I burnt myself out in the process. This year I had to look within myself and try to manage the burn out symptoms. My new psych has been amazing, but healing is hard. I’m not even sure what made me crack last week, maybe it’s the healing process, I don’t know. I’m going for a forest walk tomorrow, I’m hoping to clear out my head
