Something’s not right

Don’t want to accept the pain

Don’t want to accept the pain

Why can’t I pretend the pain isn’t real, maybe if I tell myself I’m okay and I don’t struggle with mental health I’ll be okay. Maybe if I tell myself that the traumatic memories aren’t real, then I can finally feel whole and less gross. Maybe I’ll just wake up from this dream soon and I’ll find peace within my mind when I do wake up. Maybe I’m okay, maybe there isn’t anything wrong with me

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

I think you just answered your own question? @creative_writer repressing emotions is not good for us!!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx the thing is what am I supposed to do. I’m too stubborn to reach out for support even though it’s probably what I need

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer You could try having a chat to the stubbornness to find out what it's trying to protect you from?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx the stubbornness is too scared that if I reached out, I’ll feel worse, I could be rejected, invalidated or not connect with the other person. The need to be hyper independent also makes it hard

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer all very legit concerns - however none of that is guaranteed, and there's also quite a reasonable chance you would end up feeling better.

So you can weigh it up for yourself I guess - is the risk of rejection but also reward worth it, or would it be better to continue as is?

This is how I often work through my anxieties. Find out what the true fear is, the one my anxiety is trying to steer me away from, and try to figure out if it really is a worse outcome than what I put my body through when I let anxious me run the show.

Maybe tonight the risk of judgement IS worse than just holding on. Not for me to say. But maybe this helps you figure out what you're needing?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I suppose I can try a safer helpline like SANE. I find Lifeline and SCBS very hit or miss. I might have to wait till the morning, I don’t have patience to be on hold.

I feel too reluctant to reach out to the little friends I have. I can’t talk to family either. Like I am grateful that I have a loving family, but I can’t help but feel lonely that I am not able to talk to the people around me. I don’t see friends often, but I am with my family everyday

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer ooh yes good idea to reach out to sane tomorrow! And yeah like legit, if being on hold would push you further into that territory of overwhelm/meltdown, then pop it on the backburner for now.

Yeah for sure hun. Having that safe space to vent is super important.

Have you considered joining like a support group or something?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I might not even get through at this time because they will be closing up soon.

I’ve thought about it, but it is difficult because I’ve grown up in a culture with gossiping being a norm. The idea of a support group frightens me. I have joined support zoom sessions when I was with SANE guided service, I did find it helpful. I think it helped i was able to keep my camera off and not disclose my full name

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer you looked into our Recovery Club? Might be exactly what you're looking for. That anonymity is such an important factor, hey!! It's very hard also to detangle ourselves from the values we were steeped in as a child.

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I didn’t know SANE had that. I’ll take a look into it.

There is so much emphasis on protecting the reputation of the whole family. Certain secrets can cause other people to treat the individual and their family differently. I don’t mean to stereotype, but I think it’s unfortunate that some people from my culture are so caught up with pulling others down just to build themselves up. Obviously you can’t make generalisations, but it’s what I’ve seen in some
