Something’s not right

Don’t want to accept the pain

Don’t want to accept the pain

Why can’t I pretend the pain isn’t real, maybe if I tell myself I’m okay and I don’t struggle with mental health I’ll be okay. Maybe if I tell myself that the traumatic memories aren’t real, then I can finally feel whole and less gross. Maybe I’ll just wake up from this dream soon and I’ll find peace within my mind when I do wake up. Maybe I’m okay, maybe there isn’t anything wrong with me

@Jynx my mind has been a mess, it’s like I have nothing to do. I don’t start volunteer training until next month and I don’t have a job. My mind always goes to places, I’m so tired of feeling this way. Tired of feeling broken, damaged and useless. What’s left now?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer hmm... I wonder if it's the ongoing impacts of both burnout and interruption to routine?

As a lil thought experiment - take a moment to picture what your day would look like if your MH was just not going to get in the way. How would you want your ideal day to unfold?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I am frustrating about always getting sick. When one infection resolves, others comes.

If my mental health didn’t affect me so much, I wouldn’t feel so distressed and fatigued. It would be easier to do things and easier to concentrate. I also feel ill, my head feels heavy. I know it wasn’t wise skipping a snack, but nausea isn’t easy. I am just tired of living the life I am. I am of no use

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

Totally hearing you @creative_writer which is precisely why I was encouraging you to have a think about what things might look like for you if your mental health wasn't as impactful!! It's real easy to get comfortable in the misery, and when it takes over so many aspects of our lives, we can very easily lose sight of our goals, and maybe even toss them into the 'too hard basket' subconsciously, and thus subconsciously, we stop moving toward them. I've found that the clearer the image is, this image of what kind of life I want to lead, the more I end up moving towards it.

You don't have to do jack btw - if you're not in the headspace for this kind of reflection that is super legit. I just worry about ya! Cos like, you're not at ALL useless... and also, why does one even need to be 'useful' in the first place? I think it's okay to just be 😌

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I’m stuck in my head. I just want to be able to do normal things like have a career, volunteer, do house stuff (I can’t seem to get myself up and clean). I can’t seem to engage in many activities either and feel like I need to stay at home. My attention span is so bad that even reading or creative writing is hard. I don’t know how to get out of this. I feel like giving up. I am not able to help others or myself. I don’t have the energy or strength

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer you got some goals tucked in there I reckon, just a matter of teasing them out and breaking them down into more approachable chunks!

I've been struggling a lot with house stuff too, amongst other stuff, and focusing on it has been hard when the stress from the other stuff feels more pressing... but I have been trying to be forgiving and reminding myself that trying to change everything in my life all at once is only gonna leave me burnt out and frustrated. And by getting that one aspect in order, it reduces the stress going to other parts of my life. So maybe that's where you could start too? Like don't even THINK about career or social stuff till the house stuff feels less impactful for example!! That's how I've been approaching it for myself in any case. You will have your own priorities and process of course, but figured I'd share anyway 😊

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx maybe it is about breaking them down. It just that everything feels impossible right now. Like I do have lots of nervous energy right now, but I am not getting up and doing anything right now. My mind is racing. I hate this. I want it to stop. I find it all overwhelming. Though I can’t really escape from the career side of things due to mutual obligations. I do need to get the house in order. I am at least on top of laundry. But I’m not on top of cleaning. And my hands are annoying, they get swollen so easily. Like do I need to wear a brace while cleaning? Why can’t my body be normal? Honestly at this point I don’t even know what to do. Do I take PRN or self-sabotage

@creative_writer maybe something to ask your psych for some help with? Breaking down your goals? I think it's also something we do a lot with clients in the Guided Recovery program, not sure if that was your expeirence?
