Something’s not right

Don’t want to accept the pain

Don’t want to accept the pain

Why can’t I pretend the pain isn’t real, maybe if I tell myself I’m okay and I don’t struggle with mental health I’ll be okay. Maybe if I tell myself that the traumatic memories aren’t real, then I can finally feel whole and less gross. Maybe I’ll just wake up from this dream soon and I’ll find peace within my mind when I do wake up. Maybe I’m okay, maybe there isn’t anything wrong with me

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer trueee that makes a lot of sense... and i would much prefer a non-bitter drink hehe.

ohh i see! i'm sorry you've felt that way, it absolutely sucks to feel unseen. perhaps there'll be some other ND individuals who'll find their way to you. maybe it'll be in another environment like your future workplace!

oh yep definitely don't want to worsen the migraines!! connecting spiritually sounds important too, do you have to wait until your period's over to do that?

I've often said @creative_writer we are living in a world made by and for neurotypicals. It's not some personal failing to not be able to function in it!!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@rav3n my sister likes her matcha with regular brown sugar. Everyone is different, I could drink matcha without sugar because I’m used to it. I do still think it tastes better with honey.

I feel like ND attract other NDs. It probably is why I found myself drawn to another peer at uni last semester who also had ASD and ADHD.

I can still connect spiritually even if I am on my period. Obviously I can’t fast or perform five daily prayers. I can still read the Quran, learn about Islam, say supplications

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I am only realising now how much my ADHD symptoms have taken a toil on me. It’s contributing to stuckness. It’s hard to do much when your mind is spinning and you have no motivation. Then the brain thinks and goes places, it’s utterly miserable. I get stuck in the past.
Look I know my pdoc said he was opposed to me being on stimulants. But it has meant I’ve had to look for alternatives and found stuff that somewhat helps, I combine matcha and saffron. I had a tinny bit extra saffron today just to get through the day because it’s been a struggle lately

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer aye, it's real easy to fall into the trap of shaming yourself over it too ay. My biggest ADHD struggle right now is my memory - it's soooo poor, and that impacts my relationships. Sometimes the hardest part is the self-compassion and self-forgiveness.

I am hearing that you're being cautious, only going over by a little bit. I'd not be worried unless you started doing so all the time 😉

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I am far from going over the top. The easiest way to overdo herbs and vitamins is through supplements. I rather take herbs in food quantities than supplements, I am on too many medication, interactions are likely.

I don’t think I made the connection with ADHD significantly contributing to intrusive thoughts. I have trauma, but it’s so much worse when I’m going through a paralysis. It’s hard to stop the thoughts. They’re so automatic. I am hoping I am able to bounce back and do things. Everything feels so hard. I am beyond exhausted. It’s not simply easy as just forcing myself to do things. I think people underestimate how difficult it is. It’s impossible without any neurotransmitter help

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer mm it can be so hard not to identify with the thoughts too hey. Can help sometimes to take the time to reflect on the ways the thoughts may not be true. Anxiety likes to present us with a thought as though it is absolute truth, so it helps me not over-identify with them if I take the time to find 'evidence' to the contrary.

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx sometimes it’s easier for me to distance myself, other times it’s challenging. I can distance myself today from the thoughts because it’s been a bit easier today. Sometimes it is hard for me to not believe the thoughts. I know perpetrators often want victims to feel shame, guilt and pain for harm inflicted. Sometimes it does bother me I’m letting them win.

I have noticed I’ve been a bit indifferent with body flashbacks. I’m a bit confused, has it stopped hurting as much (meaning am I healing?) or am I disassociating?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer don't think there's any 'letting' going on there hun. You're doing your best, and you were already working with some childhood trauma stuff beforehand so it will take as long as it takes. You're allowed to reject the narrative of the perpetrator 'winning' or even 'losing' because this isn't a game - it's your life. And you don't need to give that person any more power over it. Struggling to recover when you're under-resourced and socially isolated is not their win. You don't need to give them that.

Hmm... does it need to be one or the other? Maybe it's less about the label, and more about looking at what might have shifted in your life?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I didn’t go into childhood as much during my first appointment with the new psych, but I know I’ll need to talk about it a bit more. Family is hard to talk about, it sort of feels like betrayal. The test of family is huge. I would say there probably have been moments my siblings were taken aback with how my mum behaved. In the past, she has spoken about dying on multiple occasions.

It probably isn’t a very helpful narrative that a lot of us are told. It feeds the guilt of feeling the way you do.

I think I’ve had so many body flashbacks, I have sort of become used to it. So now I don’t feel as heightened when it happens
