Something’s not right

Don’t want to accept the pain

Don’t want to accept the pain

Why can’t I pretend the pain isn’t real, maybe if I tell myself I’m okay and I don’t struggle with mental health I’ll be okay. Maybe if I tell myself that the traumatic memories aren’t real, then I can finally feel whole and less gross. Maybe I’ll just wake up from this dream soon and I’ll find peace within my mind when I do wake up. Maybe I’m okay, maybe there isn’t anything wrong with me

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@rav3n coffee is a bad idea on an empty stomach. I had to reduce my coffee intake because I have a sensitive stomach. Matcha is kinder, it’s also offers more balanced caffeine . Though you can’t overdo matcha without side effects, it’s always best to stick to recommended amounts.

I hope you are able to enjoy your friends birthday and you’re able to spend some quality time with her.

I did attend an event ages ago, I didn’t really make any friends, I just went for the talks. There will most likely be Iftars I’ll attend for this Ramadan. Social events still make me anxious and I struggle to connect with people. I feel so close and yet so far from my family. Masking can make you feel so disconnected

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer yep sticking to recommended amounts sounds like the safe way to go. i recently did a coffee and tea tasting experience and realised that although my taste buds aren't a fan of matcha with milk... i do actually like the tea version with just water! maybe one day i'll grow to like it with milk!

thank you! ahh yep, i hear you about the social events. good on you for attending though, i imagine that might've been quite nerve-wrecking. it's hard to instantly connect/make friends in one meeting (or in several). sometimes i just listen to convos and act as an observer until i'm comfy. also Ramadan Mubarak! (if that's wrong pls correct me).

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@rav3n I haven’t tried matcha with milk, so I can’t comment. I only ever have it in water. They also recommend heating the water to 70-80c instead of 100c to prevent bitterness. Honey also tastes amazing with Matcha.

I don’t connect with people easily as other people do. I’ve always been this way. I don’t feel like I have much in common with most people. I am more of an observer than talker.

You said it correctly ☺️

Pssst @rav3n @creative_writer

What does coffee do to cortisol if had on empty stomach? Suddenly wondering if my morning routine is doing me dirty 😅

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I do know coffee can increase cortisol due to its caffeine intake. I’m not sure whether this is more prominent on an empty stomach, maybe @rav3n knows more about this. Caffeine does often cause anxiety when consumed in a higher quantity than tolerated. I have never been the type to tolerate more than two coffees in a day even when my stomach was less sensitive because it would make me anxious and migrainey. I do currently drink small amount of coffee because it makes me feel relaxed and more refreshed in the morning. The rest of my caffeine intake comes from matcha which is a bit more balanced as it has l’theanine

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer pretty much summed it up! @Jynx from what i've been told, caffeinated drinks and sugary drinks (or sugary/sweet foods in general) should be avoided on an empty stomach as it can spike cortisol levels and can contribute to feeling more stressed/heightened throughout the day. even sugary/sweet foods for breakfast/first meal can mess with blood-sugar levels (hence why desserts tend to be the last part of meals!) and make you more tired quickly.

basically when you wake up, your body natural starts releasing cortisol, but then having caffeine and sugary stuff spikes it more. i think having food in our stomach helps absorb some of that caffeine so that not too much cortisol is released. to be fair, some people can have caffeine/sugar first thing in the morning and live a long healthy energetic life - but if you have anxiety, chronic fatigue, high blood-sugar, etc., it may impact you a bit more. hope that makes sense!!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer ty for info! Yeah I can't do more than two coffees a day either. No idea how I used to survive drinking like 4 cans of energy drink a day. Oh wait, I was an anxious mess! lol

What's your fav way to have matcha? I've been meaning to explore it a lil but I still gotta deal with the relics of my childhood ARFID which means trying new things has to be juuuust right... Oh and I have the sweetest sweet tooth too 😅

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer the person who made me matcha tea used coconut sugar, which tasted quite nice but i don't have any atm so i'll probably try it with honey next time! and good to know about the temperature, i'll make sure not to use boiling water!

do you enjoy being an observer? when you say you don't have as much in common with most people, do you mean in terms of hobbies/interests? or something else?

how's Ramadan been for you so far?

It does @rav3n thank you!! Right... toast BEFORE coffee from now on!!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx even with matcha I stick to two a day (the recommended amount). I put around 1 teaspoon in each, I’m used to it being strong. I can’t tolerate lots of caffeine. My morning coffee only includes tinny potion of coffee.

So I normally mix matcha in 70c water, I add saffron to it. Apparently saffron is supposed to be good for ADHD and mental health. Since I can’t be on stimulant I had to find an alternative. I consumed a few more strands today and feel the difference. My symptoms are still there but are less intense. I swear when my ADHD symptoms are worse my migraines are too, so are my intrusive thoughts.

@rav3n boiling water can affect the nutrients too. If you’re having matcha, you might as well get a nice tasting and nutrient dense drink.

I think my brain is too ND for a NT world. I sort of feel like an outsider. I’ve always felt different. Ramadan has been good. I haven’t been able to fast because of my period, but I don’t think I would’ve been able to fast since I have been struggling with my physical health. I do want to be become more spiritually connected this month, that might be more doable than fasting. Migraines can get worse when fasting 😔
