Talking through trauma and PTSD

Running

Running

"Behind every strong person is a story that gave them no choice"

My life is all about a lack of choice.

I'm alive because death would've outed him, it would have sealed his fate in prison.

TW: cultic, rape, trafficking, torture

I'm the daughter of a Satanist...

One trained to breed...

One pregnant at 6 years old...

One prostituted to whoever could afford her...

The girl her dad didn't want...

One men hired to have fun with...

One men experimented with...

One who was tortured for speaking up...

One trained for the sole purpose to please her buyer...

Regardless of age...

Still though...

One who never stayed silent...

One who broke free... twice...

One who rose up...

One who seeks to prove them wrong...

One who has been running for 15 years...

One who just needs to feel heard...

One who went through hell and survived...

That this Phoenix can rise...

She will not be burned...

She's proven that...

I have proven that...

I'm 35 and 90% of those I've been in prolonged abusive situations insufficient evidence for prosecution

A system that protects the abuser more than the survivor

And yet I still try

I don't try for me, I try for the ones after me, the ones like me, that they will see their justice

But for now I run...

From a dad that wants me silenced...

From the nightmares that plague my sleep...

From the memories that invade my mind...

From the choices made for me...

Didn't expect that to come out as poetic as it did

Re: Running

I'm so tired @Jynx there's just been so much

I know they're just virtual hugs but I really do appreciate them

*crash tackle hugs crying*

Re: Running

@avant-garde universe is gonna give you a break soon, surely!! Can be sooo hard to carve out time for rest, hey.

Virtual hugs may not carry physicality but to me, the idea that there's a real human being on the other side of the screen, not just reading my words but finding meaning in them? Yeah that's pretty special!! So yes, much hugging and gentle tears!!

Re: Running

@Jynx who knows, maybe... I found myself doubting my progress on both Friday and yesterday because of what other people who don't know me said...

Re: Running

@avant-garde I offer an ear, with the caveat that I will be logging off soon so we would have to pick up again tomorrow. Up to you if you feel like unpacking it now (get it off chest so it's not swirling round brain) or wait till I can offer more time n space (so you're not all emotionally heightened and then I go 'okay byeeeeee' and leave you to deal w it alone).

But yeah, really sorry that has happened. These people who don't know you? They don't know what you've been through. They don't see the challenges you've overcome. So they don't get to decide where you're at! Hmph!

Re: Running

@Appleblossom said I could talk to her (assuming female here...) so I've been drafting a reply...

You can catch up tomorrow @Jynx

I'm not great at self validation but I think I'm doing decently enough given everything and I sometimes wish I was disrespectful enough to tell him where to shove it.

I find people of other faiths more respectful than Christians, there's something to be said for the assumption of grace

@avant-garde

Re: Running

@Appleblossom

That's confusing but ok. Next time I'll just ask what your pronouns are, that's easier.

I know @Jynx is they/them

I sent my assigned elder a message this morning, it basically summarises everything from yesterday

TW: religious concepts

Content/trigger warning

There's something I need help navigating that has me more than a little distressed...
The only way I know how to deal with this kind of thing is to stonewall people and I know that's not healthy, the alternative is boundaries and I don't entirely know what they look like in a church setting and I am not that great at enforcing them.
I've learned to recognise when they're crossed but when it comes to authoritative figures I get triggered and scared which makes it difficult to enforce them.
So last night [elder] asked me how I'm going and I gave my standard response because I'm not used to people actually paying attention to my answer and said I'm ok. I was honestly surprised when he probed for more information. So I referred to my emotional scale and came in at a 6.7, 6 being 'i didn't hate today' and 7 being 'i was content today'.
That's when things started going sour... we talk a little about contentment and I start trying to distance myself from the conversation and he asks me whether there'll be another "drama after this". He seems to be making the assumption that I like this life of discontent...
So I pull out my wild card and mention the police interview, something I never intended in telling him but I felt backed into a corner with no way out.
He asked me "do I want to ask about that" and I said "no, you probably don't" and went home trying to process the conversation.
He did challenge me though... is contentment possible with PTSD? I can't answer that specific question, but then I wrote this whole long message about contentment in Christ and emotional weather vs emotional climate and how I'm good where I am. I included one of the boundary statements I've been practicing, that my emotions are valid even when they're not what others think they should be.
I sent it to him and got a reply, it basically says that by focusing on who I am in Christ will bring me peace, I'll still have difficulties but I'd be more content.
Who I am in Christ is a concept that I've been working on for 10 years.
I wrote this summary because I talked to [friend] last night about this.

TW: rape, pregnancy

Content/trigger warning
Summary: a worthless female who is only capable of being saved by carrying the child of a church leader and maintaining sanctifying sex with said leaders until deemed holy enough for death.

That's what I was taught, that's what I constantly challenge. I'm not where I was and I'm not where I want to be, but by the grace of God I am where I am.

@avant-garde

Given the seriousness of your experiences which twisted the Christian message of love…it shows real courage, commitment, dedication, discernment and GRACE to work on the concept of contentment in Christ.

I am impressed and respect your effort. It is probably the only healthy way through the debacle you were born into. That is a true spiritual path.

Go You!

sorry I lost first draft … so took a while to respond

regarding church and elders… it’s complicated cos they are human….

the individual church and its style and the way it lives out its mission or faith…. Can all differ

####

I was treated appallingly by the church I grew up in… even though I tried hard to understand all their problems and limitations and be forgiving … but only stand in silent protest. They were in denial… couldn’t face the truth and I had to leave…now I am in another church.

####

sorry I am old school re pronouns and a bit autistic and screwed up… so I need to engage with it as me… not the person next to me.

maybe this is a way of me putting down boundaries… that I am hopeless at…all tied up with how we perceive identity and sexuality and or gender…

I just want to post you something…. Not leave you hanging

Re: Running

@avant-garde

Your communication with your elder seemed clear and respectful and it was good you were able to be authentic. You seemed to be able to combine insights from psychology and Christianity. Maybe a natural boundary is some separation around discussion of any legal proceedings.
