Support for JAT

Support for JAT

Hey @JAT ,

I created this thread so that you can share any questions you have about BPD.

I hear things have been really tough and a bit of a roller coaster. Please know you are not alone. We are here for you.

Talking therapy is what is shown to help a borderline. However, from experience, it takes time. I engaged in specialised therapy for BPD and it took about 2 years of intensive 2 weekly treatment - both group and individual therapy.

I found group therapy the hardest, but also the most helpful. The facilitators were very skilled - they were BPD specialist clinicians.

Hey @tyme

@nice to hear from you again!

Thank you - sometimes I feel so controlling but it’s not what I’m trying to achieve, just that safety in my mind so I don't over think.

I will definitely have a chat to my doctor about MBT also.
I can’t wait to start some sort of talk therapy, anything really just to get things out of my head and learn how to cope from day to day.

hopefully my doctor can get me in asap 🙏🏻

MBT is very new in Australia. I found elements of DBT and ACT helped too. Group therapy was the hardest for me, but definitely the most helpful. It was a rolling group. And trust me, there were people there I really didn't like! I was 'stuck' with them for months. This certainly taught me a lot @JAT !

I look forward to hearing what your doc says.

@tyme @Shaz51

im at work today as a trial run, been here 2.5 hours and I can’t rember how do do anything and my hands are shaking I can’t even write warranty’s which is the easiest part of my job. I had to get a doctor certificate to say I was allowed to come back today as a gentle introduction back into the workforce after three weeks off, and I have a medical certificate from today until the fifth of next month. I’m going to try and battle it out till lunchtime. I already know I’m not ready to come back and it’s very hard and overwhelming. I’m trying my best minute by minute 😵‍💫

Re: Support for JAT

Hey @JAT good on you for giving it a go today, and more importantly for listening to your needs and being prepared to leave early if needed. Like you said, the point of today is to have a gentle reintroduction, and taking a half day sounds as though it aligns with this goal given how overwhelming the morning has been.

How long until lunch?

@Ru-bee

thank you, I’ve been off a month so I just wanted to see if it could be a positive distraction but it’s more overwhelming than I thought and my anxiety is through the roof.

I set my goal for 12:30 and it’s now 11:21am.

I have two great supports at work and my boss is very understanding but I am the only one that can do my job here so the guilt is kicking in cause he is loosing 30-40k a month without me here selling.

and I don’t want to take advantage of my boss having to pay me whilst I’m literally sitting here doing nothing.

so many feelings 😵‍💫

Re: Support for JAT

Yeah, it sounds like there's a whole range of emotions going on right now @JAT

It sounds like you're a really valued member of your workplace, and the best thing you can do for them in this situation is to focus on doing what you need to do to feel better and ready to come back to work. That's not to say that it's all about getting back to work, but I know sometimes it helps to have some external motivation to keep us going and remind us of the additional value of taking care of ourselves.

Are there any small, manageable tasks you could focus on for the next hour? Or maybe it would be a good idea to reach out to one of those supports at work to let them know how you're feeling right now?

Yes I’m very lucky I work great people that keep reminding me that my health is more important than anything.

I’m struggling with my head telling me a I’m a failure but I got out of bed and got and lasted 4hours so it’s a win no matter what my head says.

that feeling of just wanting to be normal me is all i can think about right now. I just want to feel capable again and not a shell of myself but as you’ve said baby steps.

im home and taken my uniform off and that was a relief in itself. I have another two weeks off now and hopefully my therapy can start so I can learn hope to cope instead of just medicate.

thank you so much for being there when I’m struggling it means the absolute world to me.

Re: Support for JAT

I'm so glad that you're able to push back against that voice saying you're a failure @JAT , because you're absolutely right in today being a win.

You showed real strength in just showing up despite it being overwhelming and anxiety inducing, and you also showed strength in speaking up and letting them know that you would finish at lunch.

Hope you can do something nice for yourself this afternoon to celebrate the steps you took forward today 😊

Re: Support for JAT

Thank you @Ru-bee

it’s a battle, I tell ya.

my partner wanted to take me out for dinner but I really don’t feel like being in public at the moment. So I’m going to see my friends this afternoon and just try and relax cause it’s one of my safe spaces ❤️
