Support for JAT

Support for JAT

Hey @JAT ,

I created this thread so that you can share any questions you have about BPD.

I hear things have been really tough and a bit of a roller coaster. Please know you are not alone. We are here for you.

Talking therapy is what is shown to help a borderline. However, from experience, it takes time. I engaged in specialised therapy for BPD and it took about 2 years of intensive 2 weekly treatment - both group and individual therapy.

I found group therapy the hardest, but also the most helpful. The facilitators were very skilled - they were BPD specialist clinicians.

Re: Support for JAT

Hey @tyme

thank you for the check in’s. I have spent a lot of time of my phone.

but I am doing well, I am in my 4th week of DBT therapy and I absolutely love it, and its group therapy so to know I’m not alone and others really actually do think like me is comforting in an odd way.

I think my medical team also have my medication almost perfect, I still have my moments but I have seen changes in my self and my mood and interactions.

my partner and I separated for a month and it really showed me I can be alone and it be ok, and I found confidence that I didn’t know I had. We are back as a family now and I feel he has much more compassion and has also noticed positive changes.

todays a good day, it’s been a good week and hopefully it continues, but I know it going to be a roller coaster for some time till I learn all the skills and what works for me!

Re: Support for JAT

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your DBT group! That's amazing! @JAT

I've only done parts of DBT as DBT skills as opposed to the program itself. e.g. wise mind, emotional mind, logical mind.

Do you have individual sessions too as part of your DBT program?

When I was doing MBT, I had both group and individual sessions. We covered different things, but sometimes, the challenges that came with group could be discussed in individual.

Re: Support for JAT

I did 5 pre commitment sessions alone with a psychologist before I was accepted to the full sessions.

I won’t lie the group sessions can be a lot, being an empathetic as god made us I do take on a lot but as the same time, it’s a reality call.. things can always be the same but they can also be different and better with the skills leart from the group. Son are day one, some are week 24.. it’s a mixed balance that’s real yet hopeful.
if something is to much we are able to walk out and a medical professional will come out to check we are ok.. soothe and allow us to leave for the day or return and join the group.

Nice @JAT ,

Brings back memories.

Yes, I agree that it can be very hard. But i reckon that's where the work is.

How much longer is the group?

Re: Support for JAT

@tyme First round is 25 weeks and then they recommend doing another round! So I’ve got 47 weeks ahead of me!

That's great! Do you write everything down as a way to consolidate what you have learnt @JAT ?
