Hi @Former-Member,

i missed responding to your post the other day when I was feeling really under the weather myself. I'm glad you got lots of support as you deserve it. It was nice to read you are making plans to do some things for yourself. I hope this message finds you feeling ok. Thinking of you 💜🤗💐

Dear @Former-Member

Great about the bar work. When you have the space and energy for it .. it can be a great relief & distraction . and will help husband feel supported.

I still think about your son and you .. but like you I have to be careful about taking on too much pain ... and am learning to set limits on it.

For some reason your story really helped me ... heal some historical experiences with my brother & sister (20-30). I had been so alone managing their distress .. with little yard stick for comparison about what was normal adolescent issues and due to blossoming sexuality and ... .. Your voice in the present reminded me so much about my time back then .. but in a good way ... I could respect my concerns and actions and reactions... and I could let go of some of my anger about not having their needs met .. or my needs met.

Hanging on to that anger .. is never healthy .. but it seemed that it helped me release it ... maybe it was just my time to do it .. and let go of some less than helpful overvalued ideas ... that may be blocking me in my present.

I responded to the therapist in you and the family member.

hello dear appleblossom such a beautiful, delicate name

My way of looking at what you described is something like a spiritual connection. I have these more and more in the last few years. They come from nowhere and without any pre-empting or warning. I cannot describe the feeling that I then have. Calm does not go anywhere near, more serenity or even momentarily taken to another place (here comes the depth).

So I am so happy that you thought of me whilst, or after your experience. That is an honour. I sincerely thank you.

I think of you and our other friends often, you all have a place in my heart. You are all the closest anyone has been in connecting with the term "schizophrenia". Thereby helping me to connect to my son. Thank you all xx

I have been doing some researching of threads on here re schizophrenia and am flabbergasted at the number of people experiencing such traumatic times with family members. I find myself yet again questioning further the pharmaceutical medical system we have. Yet cannot fully place my trust in purely holistic methods either.

So I am continuing to research, questions, new pathways, new discoveries, more questions.

preparation for the day when I see my son again. I believe in him, love him even more, did not think that was possible and cant wait to see him face to face to hold him, tell him again how deep my love for him always will be. Tears flowing yes. Wouldn't it be nice if we could collect our tears in a beautiful vessel and hold them in a safe place for whenever.

xxxx

Hi @morhill how are you today ?? I've doing some research too about schizoprenia to know more and i too have been wondering about the pharmaceuticals ..treatments..etc..do they prescribe the right meds for the right illness ?? I've watched a video in youtube that questions the antipychotic meds ..are they the right one ?? Or do patients need to just adjust food/diet? There are tons of illness that leads to sympthoms like schizoprenia..celiac disease is one when patient is exposed to too much gluten they tend to have dellusions and hallucinations too..when my partner was first confined in the hospital on my watch..they didnt do much test on him..they just assumed since theres a record of mental illness its probably his schizoprenia..since theres a record of drug use its probably triggered his schizoprenia..but it doesnt explain the vomiting the loose bowel tingling of hands and feet that he has been experiencing for months..i tried to tell them all those symptoms but they just told me its the pots that triggered his schizoprenia ..i was awe!! ..just like that! Im sorry for pouring out mg frustrations here but its like i see the man i love drowning infront of me and i cant do anything about it. 😞

Hi @Maryjune

You have raised an important issue here. Patients with mental health issues need to have a good GP relationship to look after their well being as a whole. Unfortunately the focus is often on their mental health that other issues get overlooked. If you have concerns about other health issues his GP is the best place to start.

If your partner was an involuntary patient the hospital have an obligation to provide general health care and there are ways you can address this.

Re: When a Carer / wife / Husband / Partner is in need of meds herself / himself

Hi @Maryjune .....

i have the same ."husband drowning opinion front of me" going on ..... with an atypical eating disorder that has gone to an extreme .... masked as a "healthy life change". I have been shocked and horrified to realise how very experienced, compassionate, astute, gp's physio's and dentists have missed it while it was hiding in plain sight .... it's only as he is starting to finally run down and perhaps run aground that it is coming to light, and even then in his state of denial, nobody seems to know what to do with him to unmask him.

Even though all the information is clearly out there on the Internet in bold black and white detail, medical professionals outside eating disorder specialisation are only looking for very specific criteria in relation to Anorexia or Bulimia, and now B\nge Eating Disorder has been picked up as an e.d..... so late in the piece but it's finally on the board ..... but my hubby had gone from being morbidly obese with BED to an atypical combination of about four different things, carefully dodging the spotlight by keeping his weight at the low end of normal though muscle accumulation. Meanwhile the whole BED mindset is still in full force with what I think may be B/nge / P¥rge Anorexia Nervosa or atypical Bulimia Nervosa .... with Orthoexia definitely present, Athletica Nervosa in full swing, and Chew/Soit at litres per day .....

Its the emotional instability, and need to defend his intense daily, all-consuming regimen of eating and exercise, specific to ritualised times and measures, that has taken him from us. All we can do is try to walk along with him, helplessly watching him come undone by degrees, and wondering just what it is going to take to achieve intervention, and even whether we could lose him before that happens.

Its such a mess .... and I actually had intervention taken against me in the early years of this when I tried like mad to flag down the gp ..... my hubby was losing weight under his medical supervision, but taking the method to extremes, including the development of the Chew/Soit behaviour, without the dr's awareness. We have been living with this for seven years now, and where early intervention could have prevented it progressing to where it is now, which is what is so devastating to us as his family, I am also wondering just how much intervention it is now going to take to try to rescue him from where he has "progressed" to .....

This is a case where the focus has NOT been on mental health .... and it is only watching him in the grip of this illness that I have come to understand how and why it is classed as a mental illness. I had obviously thought that an e.d. was "simply" founded in body dysmorphia ..... the emotional abuse, change in personality along with physical appearance, and devestation of personal relationships has been just that .... devastating. And still we are on our own irl (in real life) .... however on the forums here I have never been alone since I joined.

The sense of being heard, understood, listened to compassionately and having my hand held every step of the way here has been immeasurable. In our hidden pain and grief, the forums have been a God-send, keeping me afloat, and in turn that has kept my family afloat.

Hearing you and walking with you @Maryjune .....
