Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Haha @Former-Member, not at all crass,
I have to admit, and I did feel a little bad, but I had to giggle at the image of the puppies mowing everyone down to get out the door for their dinner. We have friends with greyhounds and they are quite comical to watch when they are on a mission. You actually did well if there was something left to roast, I cant imagine that I would have. Our neighbours duck came across for a visit once and all we had to show was a handful of tail feathers. Knew it was him as he was trying to hide and had evidence on his nose.

I really hope that Mr Darcy is ok and doesn't take it too hard. thinking of you both.

hello @Former-Member

hope mr darcy and the rooster are feeling settled now.

mice as tiny as they are can create such havoc

i scream when one runs past me usually halting the process of one of my cats catching the dratted thing. end up with cats shooting off in one direction and mouse in other.

sounds as though your humour saved the day for you darcy. well done

Good news @Determined @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member

Popped out in my work tea break and have found the rooster alive, sitting in a bush, was hard to tell if any injury, will keep an eye and let the bird rest for a while and see if he emerges on his own.

When I told Mr Darcy he perked up immediately and is now walking the dogs. Of course it could all change.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Just caught up on posts

@Former-Member - huge hugs. Glad about the chook and hopefully Mr Darcy will be ok. And yes MIA is missing in action. Though could also call my partner AWOL.

@Determined - thanks my friend. I am trying best to hold up. I want things to get sorted and am prepared for the outcome that this could be the end of us. But in order for things be sorted, I will need to hear from him. Unfortunately for him (and me!) I am the sort of person that i need to know, need to talk, and can't let it go without knowing, if that makes sense. He is acting really strange and distant and it irks me I don't know what is up and wrong. I am the sort if things are to end, I rather do it in person, so I am perserving which could be a great annoyance for him. Am quite a determined person ( See what I did there haha). I hope things are going ok for you xx

Hi @Former-Member - good to know I am not alone. How did you cope or what did you do?

Right now I am just persisting, texts and few calls. Avoiding to result in calling the house, facebook messaging his sis/best friend and eventually rocking up unannounced at his place. All I know will probably piss him off.

I have moments where I am ok and moments where I am not. A constant rollercoaster.

Hello everyone @Anony18, @Former-Member, @Former-Member, @Determined, @Faith-and-Hope

Is it Social Anxiety Disorder ?? or Anxiety / Depression ??

My husband who has MI all his life has been told he has social anxiety by the doctor

I have looked it up and Hubby has got a lot of it but not all the symptoms

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

@Anony18 will try not to go into too much detail The first time he went was overnight only and he got in touch and came home the next day - this was the start of his M -it was not till 11 or so years later as things had deteriorated he took off again and it was clear he was not going to answer his phone. I left a couple of messages but knew it would be pointless leaving too many messages, many friends and family members called. He eventually rang me from an ambulance on his way to hospital interstate perhaps 4 or 5 days after leaving home; at the time he told me he still wanted to be married, he was probably psychotic but I did not have any knowledge of MI then. From there is MI continued to decline, and roughly a year later took off and went bush, no food or water for 5 days, came out of his own accord. Once again he was not answering phone (many friends rang), we had no idea where he was. The last time he absconded from hospital to the beach (did that a couple of times), I left one message, he texted me just after midnight as it was my birthday and he picked up phone when I rang back and I convinced him to go to road side and police picked him up and took him back to hospital.
Once located he is subdued and apologetic but I don't think he realises the emotional turmoil that I feel.
Now he is almost adequately treated he did start to get some insight into this but he got marked memory loss due to ECT so cannot remember most of it.
I probably don't doubt that he loves me but his illness impairs his ability to show it at times.
For me, for us, I need to be involved in his treatment plan as he was not coping on his own. Once I educated myself and understood more, our relationship improved greatly.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

@Former-Member - thanks for sharing. Was unsure if it may be a tough topic for you and after I posted I regretted it slightly hoping won't lose a friend in the process. I cannot imagine how tough it must have been as I am feeling it now. Part of me wants to leave him be but I don't think I can do it anymore at this stage because it has gone for too long since we really spoken (weeks!) Got a message here and there after hassling that he is off camping or need time alone which I left him be for a few days or so in respect. Have yet to reach out to his family or friends (only spoken to one of each) which I may have to reach out to if it comes to that.

Am glad that things are better. Definitely educating yourself is important and I felt that by doing that and signing up to the mighty feed has helped alot. I have been probably more understanding of it all but at this stage now he has pushed those boundaries at my end whether he realised or not. A talk that is needed to be had...
