Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

A good day to take things quietly and gently eh @Shaz51, will nag you about keeping your fluids up.

While Mr D walked the dogs this morning I made some phone calls to sister and SIL. then my brother rang so had a chat with him.
We are planning on heading out shortly to go to a cafe for lunch, to visit a flower show and then catch up with friends for a cuppa after, need to get my skates on and get ready to go.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

OK, Need some advice.....

The doctor is refusing to even talk to me these days and as a carer.....that sucks the big one.....

My partner was relatively 'fine' until anti-psychotics were prescribed. Now my partner is hearing voices...detremental voices....

The pdoc cant understand why the anti-psychotics (AP) arent working and just keeps upping the dose......making things worse.

the pdoc cant hear whats going on because the pdoc wont talk to me.....my partner is very clever at only releasing the information that he wants to release. The pdoc cant see through this......

My partner gets reassurance from the voices even though the long term concept of the voices is self harm...... The AP are causing the psychosis...it happens occaisionally but the pdoc seems to ignoe the possibility....I mean. how can a trained professional possibly get it wrong....just keeps upping the dose...! that'll fix it!

The AP have caused masive weight gain......a huge issue for my partner who now refuses to go outside the back door.....

How can I get the pdoc to listen and get a stop to all this madness and stop all this polypharmacy.......

@Shaz51 Sounds like your day was quite productive, sometimes (make that nearly always) dietary changes can seem overwhelming, can I encourage you to start with one small change you feel is achievable.

Afternoon went OK, Mr D anxious this evening.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

@Emmet ..... that is soooo sucky ...... but I can only empathise, not offer advice. My Son2’s pdoc is not sharing or listening, at least with me .... seems to have been charmed by mr. f&h tho ...... and is doing family damage as he rescues S2 who is his client ....... it’s tipping the rest of us out of the boat and into the rapids, but of course that’s not his problem, right ??!!

Grrrrr ......

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

@Emmet ..... after a few years I ended up going to a psychologist for emotional support when, in our state, nobody would listen to mr. f&h’s menta health and eating disordered behaviours, and what that was doing to our relationships ...... he was and is still in denial, but lacking insight that there is anything at all wrong with what he is doing and lying about it ......

You will need to guard your own health against carer’s burnout in your situation ..... it’s a real thing. Talk to your gp and anyone else who will listen cos you need comfort, validation, support etc yourself.

Menta health issues belong to everyone concerned, not just the carrier ...... everybody suffers / struggles with it .....

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

@MrsL @Bel How are you doing?

@Emmet I do not understand why some partners do not allow their loved ones involvement in their treatment plan. However,
confidentiality does not preclude your partners pdoc receiving information from you. You can send an email or a note to the pdoc noting your observations; it is best kept strictly clinical. The upset about his weight gain should also be mentioned in this. This talk explains:
