My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

how are you all today?

all quiet and calm in the background for you?

good morning @Former-Member @Shaz51 @Determined

sometimes when the carer is recognised as needing help....the needs of the person being cared for decrease as they are brought out of their internal crisis and find themselves thrown into reality....

@Former-Member
I think we are all feeling the strain in different ways. Mr D struggling, will see if there is significant improvement in the next fortnight as he will be off the strong pain meds then.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

yes @Former-Member

it has been quite a lengthy ordeal for you both...

an arduous..stressful lead up to the operation....the unknown of when

a good thing that you are taking time out for yourself and resting from here....as you lovingly tell all of us to do..

I know only too well that your absence will be noted by many as you are here for so many of us on here

so rest and be gentle to mrs darcy

same @Shaz51 @Determined please be gentle with yourselves and rest

we will all still be thinking of you....

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

How many years have you been married now @Shaz51?

Am convinced Mr D going through withdrawal symptoms from pain meds, suspect there will be 2-3 more days of misery. Could see he was not good, but has been howling again this evening for over an hour, started when his boxers getting caught in his jeans zip...

Thank goodness for the forum distraction but I need sleep too, the sofa with K9 company is not the most comfy spot.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hearing you @Former-Member ..... often on Chair Island myself for half the night when Bed Island is taken over with pre-sleep munching, crunching, rattling, slurping, glugging, and the strong smell of molten chocolate .... extended by bouts of falling asleep and re-waking to continue ....

It might not be howling, but it has become just as distressing via simulation of another e.d. behaviour .....

I hope it is a short-lived reaction in Mr. Darcy. Has he been able to settle from this state before once the meds have been balanced out ? Are you able to view this as a symptom of him needing medication adjustments, and then things resume a normality that is manageable, or is it a rollercasyer ongoing @Former-Member ?

Of course, only answer if you are comfortable to.

I live in hope that our pattern is alterable.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

I am viewing it as and hoping it is short lived @Faith-and-Hope there does appear to be cause and effect. The symptoms he is showing are classic withdrawal as per info leaflet and as such I am hopeful that things will pick up. Will not know until after the dust has settled (ie if it will be a trigger for another episode. He calmed down by 11 pm so both managed to get adequate sleep.

MI + surgery can lead to poorer outcomes. One concern is I don't know how much weight bearing Mr D should be doing but I am worried he is overdoing things, his perfectionism means he wont use any mobility aids, particularly not in public and he so desperately wants to do things and not be disabled. (I learned perfectionism does not mean things are done to the highest standard).

Anyhoo, best get moving, appts today ...
