@Former-Member, how are things tonight?

Trust things continue to improve for Mr Darcy and that the healing process is going to plan.

Good morning all, finding things a bit tough at the moment @Mandy1?

One of the aims I had when I went to see a psychologist was to get some help on how to focus on work. He did give me some tips on keeping my attention on the task.

It is awfully hard when our partners are crying and distressed and we feel so helpless. Mr D is not good at self soothing, it is really upsetting when he is howling and feels life will never be as good as it was.

I keep reminding Mr D that things go in cycles, there is hope for improvement and when appropriate continue to gently encourage lifestyle changes that contribute to holistic wellness. As with other chronic conditions meds are needed but are not the only factor in maximising wellness. I am not overly fond of the diabetes comparison but with it a patient needs to monitor diets, bloods, meds, weight etc. to maintain wellness. This is the same for our beloveds with BPii.

Mr D does a mood chart. So important when monitoring med changes it can help a patient in treatment decision making when they see results in black and white esp when there are no other definitive tests.

Empowering Mr D to believe that he can live well in spite of a mental illness to me is at the heart of his treatment. Being realistic that it is a chronic illness but with appropriate management he can manage the symptoms rather than be a slave to them is something I try and emphasize. His brain took a battering with psychosis and aggressive treatment, it is close to 2 years since he attempted. Hope is still hard to detect but he is slowly regaining motivation to do a bit more outside of home, his only regular activity is going to a weekly Grow group but that is on hold due to his surgery last week. Iam finding that day excursions are best for him and try and involve friends in them as MI can be so isolating but often Mr D does not want to catch up with people but is glad when he does (we do things like meeting for coffee-lunch or attendin some event or tourist type place). It is hard as working full time weekends are precious.
