Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Good afternoon @Faith-and-Hope, @Former-Member, @Determined

Has he got back in with the psychiatrist? -- No @Former-Member, we rang the mental health team , but Mr Shaz is not on the list anymore and he would have to go through everything again -- which he is not going to do

Mr Shaz is not prepared to seek help or support again

@Faith-and-Hope, You wrote --- I have discussed with support services and my psychologist -- ( I have never thought of getting help and support for myself -- I know that sounds strange

My mum must have sixth sense last night because she rang me and I told her all about it , which was good , she has said to start going for a walk in my spare time and do Jigsaw puzzles

Oh @Determined, I got all my jobs done yesterday and today -- I still don`t know How !!

I had to leave a message yesterday and today explaining which is hard but I am glad they understand

Talk to you soon xoxo

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Gotta take care of the carer @Shaz51 .... or you end up with two patients instead of one .... and nobody taking care of either of them ....

Yes .... do seek support for yourself, starting with your GP maybe ....

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Oh no @Shaz51, am hearing it is too hard for Mr Shaz to start from square 1 again.

@Faith-and-Hope is spot on.

Support and a safety plan, even if one sided is important for our own health (and potentially life saving for the one we love). The things we can control ...

Can I add my encouragement to that which F&H has given that you seek support?

Sometimes it can take a bit of time to see someone, can I suggest a couple of interim options.

Carers Aust have mental health carer counseling 1800 242 636

Wellways have a peer support help line 1300 111 500, they can refer for counseling.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hi @Shaz51,

Sorry to hear that your hubby isnt doing well at the moment. There has been alot of stress and pressure on both of you lately! I hope things improve for him soon. If you feel as though you need to talk about it, you have the options given here in the thread and you can also give us a call here in the SANE Help Centre. We would be happy to talk to you about it too if you feel like you need some guidence or a listening ear.

I also second what everyone has been saying in terms of self-care. I know this can be hard, particualrly given everything you are doing at the moment, but some down time to go for a walk or do some of your puzzle sounds nice to me

Thinking of you and your family.

Hi @Shaz51 - sorry to hear your hubby isn't doing well. It must be tough on you but as always we are all here. Hopefully he will come round and sought for help. In the meantime do take care of your health and wellbeing. Take some time out for yourself my friend xx

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hi @Shaz51
Sorry to hear Mr Shaz is reluctant to get help. I don't understand the system has to make it so hard to get help at times like this, especially if you have alreadybeen through the process.
I would like to also eco everyone else about getting help for yourself.
Like @Faith-and-Hope said, if you dont look after yourself you may end up with 2 patients instead of one . (This is what happenedto me). Even with this knowledge I still have to work on this though so understand how hard it is.
Trust things pick up for you both soon 🙂

Hello @Former-Member, I do feel like I need some guidence in this for myself

Thank you for all your suggestions , I have made a appointment with my GP for next wednesday xx

Just need to work out what I need and the what to ask the doctor ??

I am going to do this for me

Maybe Mr Shaz might see it as a good thing and see a gp again himself == fingers crossed my friends

Thinking of you and your family @Shaz51

Sending support your way. I like your leading the way by example, showing Mr Shaz what you can do inevitably supports him in opening his eyes to possibilities.

Looking after yourself = top priority.
