Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

not a good day today xx

We went to work for a lady who we do jobs for her all day every two weeks

this morning she was vry anxious as her sick husband went into hospital and now he is put in a nursing home , she talks to me all the time which I am ok with

today she had to go out for the day and left us a list of jobs to do , her anxiety levels were rising and so was my hubby`s job list and his anxiety level was rising tooo

The Lady left and I made morning tea and hubby came in looking a mess -- his anxiety had gone through the roof

His mind was a mess thinking non stop ,my poor darling

he was not coping at all , I sad " do you want to go home " -- I will leave a note

"are you Ok " , " Do you want to go to the hospital ""

hubby said going to the hospital is a waste of time !!!!!

Sit down for a little while , and only do what you can

WOW what a day , there was more happening this afternoon

but we are home

Unusure what to do in what is best for hubby`s health and well being ???

Hi @Shaz51

So sorry to hear today was so hard for you. Did you get all of your jobs done?

How is Mr Shaz tonight? Trusting a restful night may see an improvement for tomorrow.

How are you copeing now? Will be thinking of you both.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hey @Shaz51

It is so hard to know when it is a bad day or when it is more ...

To see the one we love in distress is heart wrenching.

Did Mr Shaz ever book back in with the psychiatrist? Would he be amenable to this and if he is can you get an appt sooner rather than later?

Knowing when to call in back up and activate safety plan can be difficult. Only you would know if his anxiety bouts are becoming more frequent or severe. Are you able to check with CAT team for advice?

Take care and I hope things settle soon.
Darcy

Hi @Shaz51
Thinking of you and Mr Shaz today

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Yes @Shaz51

Mr Darcy is a twin to Mr Shaz, he too feels that they can't do anything at the hospital.

Mr Darcy will leave things until they are at crisis before seeking help ... I have made an oath that I will do everything in my power to prevent this and will intervene before it gets to this.

Hope you get through your jobs today and that both you and Mr Shaz are able to get some rest when done. Perhaps even just a little time on the jigsaw ...

Darcy

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hi @Shaz51

I agree with @Former-Member ..... some jigsaw time every day is medicine for you .... have to take care of the carer .....

While we don't have a diagnosis yet, and I have a snowflake's chance of getting Mr F&H anywhere ..... I have discussed with support services and my psychologist what sort of symptoms would indicate that he is entering a health crisis that requires immediate medical intervention so I have a general plan of action to follow if it comes to that.

Whether Mr Shaz is prepared to seek help or support or not, I think for your own health you need to talk to someone about a safety plan, and where to go and what to do when he is reaching a certain level of anxiety and / or physical symptoms.

That may be as simple as him lying down with his feet up, drinking a cup of hot, slightly sweet tea, with a damp cloth on his forehead or the back of his neck. If he is starting towards a panic attack, having a plan to follow and set steps to take can be a comfort to both of you, and help keep the anxiety from spiralling out of control.
