Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Heeeeyyyy @PeppiPatty ..... 😀👍❤️💕

Good to see you Hon ..... ❣️

My hubby (WH) has an undiagnosed complex hidden eating disorder. He has recently been diagnosed as ocpd (Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder which is different to OCD - Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) which explains all his controlling, rages, emotionally sbusive behaviour, seeming personality and values change, etc ..... ocpd apparently runs in his family, and the e.d. appears to have triggered it in him. He was diagnosed with the ocpd by a psychiatrist looking after our younger son (S2), but apart from recommending family counselling, the pdoc has not referred WH for personal counselling, saying that he is only reapinsible for S2, not WH or me .....

The. next complication is that because WH is completely unaware that he is ill, and doesn't even seem to understand what the ocpd diagnosis means ..... cos he's controlling all over the place today without being aware that it's a problem ..... I have been advised by one
of my own counsellors that it is dangerous to try to explain anything or everything to the family counsellor with WH present. The lack of insight has to be breached first, because none of us will be able to cope with the fall-out of doing that. There is no safety net in place. It would become an unsupported intervention in the moment, which may even fail to wake him up, leaving us with him furious, disillusioned, and out of control.

Yes, you are correct about the holiday, the artwork, mil coming with us ..... the combined ocpd and e.d. illnesses have resulted in WH forming an unhealthy emotional attachment to his mother, (who is also ocpd by all descriptions) and who supports his e.d. proudly ..... mistaking it for a successful life change, including his chew-spit habit ..... 😱

I don't know how this is going to turn out, but it can't keep going. WH is not maintaining his body temperature without thermal clothing and using "hotties" - thermal heat pads that you put in your pockets in freezing weather to help you stay warm. Somehow the fact that he has an eating disorder is going to surface.

I am so glad you have two close friends now.

Poor Arlo ...... sounds like he has been misbehaving ......

Dearest @Faith-and-Hope........

I feel teary when I read your message, there is a complete fondness for you inside me. I feel teary when I see your beautiful flower ...a lotus as your profile. I feel teary when I see your message. I need to re read and re read.

I am so so sorry.........At least husband is diagnosed. How long have you waited for this to happen?

At last, after many years, my husband is vocally stating that he has Paranoid Schizphrenia. He might have done it before but he had people around him that did not support him and gave him a LOT of self medication stuff. We went to his treating hospital a month ago and I'm. saying .."I need more support. I need more support ," so we decided to go to couple's councelling at Relationship Australia. It's brilliant. It's certainly something that I need. It makes me feel stronger. We are looking at this paper by someone called David Schnarch.......we burst out laughing when the councillor brought it to our second session but it's very fun to read. It's about how to take care of yourself without needing others around you so you feel better about yourself.

AFter we left our second session, actually, when we were in there,I realised that I asked for more support after my family had just been over for my Mum's 75th Birthday. EVeryone turned up, my three brothers, children and even my oldest son! He is WONDERFUL. He is on medication and quit drugs, smoking and drinking. He is 26 years old. He works out every day.

He is VERY autonomous.

I am so pleased to hear your news @PeppiPatty .... we have missed you and we're hoping you were okay .... It's so good to see you here again.

We have a part-diagnosis at least, which is far better than no diagnosis .... and I am waiting to see how the rest will come out over time .... hopefully not too much time .... 😔

Keep yourself well Hon ..... 💜💐

Hey @PeppiPatty
Sooooo pleased to hear from you ... was hoping you were OK. Hope Mr G OK.
Hope little Arlo is well too. Have you been doing writing or craft?

Hi @Shaz51 @Determined @Faith-and-Hope
Start of holiday not so good, I threw up on overnight boat trip, settled in at my Mum's place, went into the city today, Mr D wasn't in a good place, was having flash backs and feelings that he has ruined everything, didn't want to buy anything nice from central market, only lunch, hoping tomorrow things will be better as we start catching up with family and friends.

Oh @Former-Member - seasickness isn't much fun. I hope things improve from here on in. I know you were anxious about meeting up with the rellies and friends. Fingers crossed it goes well. Try to relax and enjoy yourself.

Hi @PeppiPatty - nice to meet you. You know when someone asks how you are and you tell them you're okay or even fine. Well, if I did that, it would be a big fat lie.
