My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

@Former-Member

I hear you - have also been incredibly emotional once we got past the initial crisis.

Mr Cath was pretty nervous too as all my immediate family knew about the attempt and we were staying with them. I think he expected a million and one questions but really there weren't many. There wasn't really any talk about the attempt, more "how are you feeling now?". That suited Mr Cath as it meant it was acknowledged but not dwelt on. I think it was important for the family to ask things if they wanted to, but not to push it if he seemed uncomfortable - just like any normal conversation. I think both he and they talked about it more naturally than his own family (who usually just ask me!).

I think the anticipation was worse for him than the reality!

Peace snd quiet is so nice...My Mr is home from hospital and we are seeing a doctor today. We are seeing a new one as i dont beleive his last doc really cared enough about MI. He's saying he has hit his rock bottom snd really wants to get better so hopefully this time things will move in the right direction. MI is so hard to live with but when you love someone you just cant give up on them x

Hello @neenb80

@Shaz51 bummer about the rain.

Thanks @Cath22, will try and relax more, am really looking forward to seeing family again. Hoping that Mr C will remain stable on his new meds.

@Blue-eyes-77 is it a GP you are seeing or pdoc? Finding a GP that understands MI is really helpful, and getting consistent psychiatric care so important. Has bipolar officially been diagnosed? Reason for asking is that even though there is depression in BP, treatment is very different.

I can only emphasize the need for you to get some support through this process. Don't hesitate to ask the doc about getting help in psych education, relapse prevention and wellness programs. I hope that Mr Blue will be amenable to getting the help he needs.

Feel free to ask any questions about any subject, I am sure one of the up & downers will be able to help. Whilst our situations are different we all face challenges and have similar emotions.

It was just a gp, but he woke up this moning not feeling good and rang the 13 health number straight away. they have started the process through the hospital doc and phyc team, they have also adivsed him that the meds he was taking were doing more harm than good, so much for the gp helping.

well at least we are on the way to getting the right help and meds, i just want to thankyou all for your help, i am glad i have joined (although still trying to navigate through the forum properly) reading your advise and your stories have helped so much, thankyou x

Hi well today hasn't been very good, havent heard back from the hospital regarding appointment. mr blue has been sleeping all afternoon, i tried waking him for dinner but he says hed rather sleep, his way of getting over it he said so i left him. I went to the doc and got an appointment with a councellor so thats one good thing and also had confirmation from my work for the next week off, its quite embarrrasing to tell people why you need this time off but they were very understanding, a big weight off the shoulders except im only casual so wont be getting paid.

do any of you meet in person to chat? Would like to make some friends that understand whats going on, hope all are well tonight x

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hi @Blue-eyes-77 - I can see that it's a difficult time for you at the moment. You make progress in one area and then are frustrated by something else. Hopefully things are moving in the right direction and will happen as quickly as possible.

Sleep is often used as a refuge from difficult situations as you don't have to think about the worries you have. It may also well be a side effect from medication that Mr Blue is on.

Good to see that you've been to the doctors and have a counsellor's appointment coming up. In my experience they are someone to listen to you without judgement and make you feel a bit better about yourself. I have found this forum invaluable even though it has some limitations in that I feel I cannot open up as much as I'd like to at times for fear it may trigger bad thoughts for others.

I still harbour a lot of guilt, shame and embarrassment and hardly anybody knows about my situation apart from one good friend and even then I have sheltered her as well.

The forums are an anonymous meeting place and there isn't any provision to personal message anyone. Often, I wish this wasn't the case but I guess there are good reasons for that.
