My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Sometimes hospital is the best place for things to start happening. Here is a short 15 min talk gives 4 good strategies to help when MI enters family and how you can best communicate symptoms to the treating team.

It is is good idea to familiarise yourself with your state's mental health act (on internet).

Being in hospital will give you breathing space and an opportunity to get some help for yourself.

Carers Australia are a good starting spot and offer free counselling

If you are in Eastern states

There are more supports depending on what state you are in.

Hi All, just catching up after a bit of time off - good to see everyone. Couldn't really use the forums on the mobile but am back in front of a PC now!

I have spent a month in the UK - my husband went back into hospital for a week just before we left as things were going downhill rapidly. Anyway, his response to new medication was amazing and we made the decision to do the UK trip. To be honest, I needed to go and spend time with my family more than anything - had to recharge (physically and mentally) to keep looking after husband. Travelling with someone with MI is not the easiest but it was worth it. Am proud of how he managed - he coped with our (nearly) 4 year old far better than he has done in months and months. It was a relief. The problems haven;t gone awaybut things are more stable and I feel better equipped to cope.

In hindsight I am so glad he went back into hospital when he did. It didn;t feel ike a good thing at the time but I guess these things never do!

Lovely to hear there has been a good response to meds and the trip went well and that you are refreshed. We do know about the ups and downs, but we can live well in spite of mental illness, getting good support for yourself to continue on now you are back home is important. I did not realise just how emotional I would get once the crisis phase was over.

Mr Darcy and I are going interstate to visit family for the first time post attempt and he is a bit nervous. Did your relatives know and if they did how did you cope with the inevitable questions.
