Something’s not right

Oscillation between two mind sets

Oscillation between two mind sets

Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of things and don’t feel like my trauma defines me and I don’t feel so ashamed and scared. Other times I want to hide from the world and feel like a **** (I’m not going to say the word here since I don’t want to trigger anyone) 😭, I feel so ashamed that I don’t want people to know

I had a strange dream last night and I’m having body flashbacks this morning. I was having the flashbacks last night too, but I didn’t want to make a big deal out it and I don’t want to have to rely on people every time shit happens. Since it’s been going on for a while, I am growing irritated, I must sit with it till it passes

And I feel like I’m going south again. My head feels heavy and I feel discomfort in my body, body flashbacks can make me feel so gross

@creative_writer I can only imagine hun, sounds very overwhelming.

My partner told me yesterday about one little coping tool that you could add to your toolbox - when we get dysregulated/anxious our bodies are preparing us to fight or flee, so sometimes something as simple as running on the spot can help to use up the adrenaline/send signals to the brain that we are following that instinct, and moving towards safety. Do you think that could help?

@Jynx, I could try that.

I think I just feel numb right now. No emotions. Just nothingness. I feel like I am
Floating on a cloud. I’m going to eat dinner, I am craving salt

That sounds like you may have moved beyond fight/flight and into shut down @creative_writer (or freeze/fawn) which makes sense if the body flashbacks are related to trauma like SA where sometimes running or fighting aren't options. I found this, which might be helpful too - it's from a neurodivergent oriented blog which is also a bonus!

Hope having some dinner helps, esp with salt cravings! Very important to listen to those, for sure 😉

@Jynx, there was no escape during trauma. I didn’t really process it until years later, it just strung me one day and I was like shit. I’ve been looking at the blog, it looks good. I noticed one of the techniques mentioned was tapping. My psych was thinking of covering that during the next appointment.

I had dinner, feel better migraine wise. Emotion wise still flat. Looks like I’ll need lots of self care

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@creative_writer I've done tapping before, it's quite interesting and does seem to help. I ended up subscribing to their newsletter haha - their website is here.

Sorry to hear you're still feeling flat, but yay for self-care! What self-care will you be doing you reckon?

@Jynx, so far I’ve tried some prayer, breathing, muscle relaxation. I also finally washed my makeup brushes, it had been longer than I want to admit, I’ll wash the bag in the wash with my clothes tomorrow. Have you been up to much this evening?
