Oscillation between two mind sets

Oscillation between two mind sets

Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of things and don’t feel like my trauma defines me and I don’t feel so ashamed and scared. Other times I want to hide from the world and feel like a **** (I’m not going to say the word here since I don’t want to trigger anyone) 😭, I feel so ashamed that I don’t want people to know

Very much hearing you @creative_writer ❤️ I can see that you are struggling with taking PRN to get through some days - I get it. I was worried about having to rely on them as well a few years back (and occasionally stil need one or two). I see it more as a temporary need because you have had so much to deal with - that means it will not always be that way.

@tyme, @Acanthiza and @Zoe7, I’m no longer feeling agitated, but right now it’s about seeing whether this holds up. My head is feeling heavy, but that’s expected.

@Acanthiza, As much as relaxation techniques help, I do find myself resorting to PRN when I feel a mixed episode coming. I know if I don’t break the cycle I’ll be stuck for a while and I would become a suicidal wreck. I did start losing it yesterday, started planning how, and re-read the poem I wrote when I was very suicidal in 2022. I would still love to hear what works for you.

@Zoe7, I know my pdoc would rather I take the PRN than do something that will have consequence. When emotions run high, common sense and logic go out the window. I can sometimes make the not so good decisions

Hey @creative_writer just been catching up on the latest, and wanted to check in to see how you're travelling this afternoon.

@Jynx, way better than yesterday but feeling the after-effects. I think one of the reasons why I’m exhausted is because my MH has been chaotic, one burns out from heightened emotional states. I’ve been ruminating quite a bit, and I’m hoping to process things in therapy next week.

How are you today?

Oh for sure @creative_writer really wears out our energy reserves hey. And ruminating is never fun - would it help to get the thoughts out somewhere?

I'm doing alright, bit weary from doing a whole bunch of yard work yesterday, and my back aches too. But I'll be alright 😊 Just hoping for a cool change soon! But apparently it's just getting hotter n hotter till it's like 37 on Thursday, blech. Not looking forward to that!

@Jynx, the thoughts are around confusion of how my body reacted during the trauma. I’m not sure what I can do about it right now, i think the psych appointment is best place to process things.

It is certainly going to be a very hot Thursday and I have uni on that day, I’ll probably try to come back home straight after class. I hope the exhaustion and body aches settle down

Aye, sounds like a good idea @creative_writer. Idk if you find journalling helpful, but it could be a good way to get all the thoughts about this out of mind and onto paper - which you could then take with you to the session. Just a thought 😉

Oh no, is it a long journey for you to and from uni? I would very much struggle to want to leave the house!

@Jynx, I could try writing. There is also other stuff going through my brain right now, but I can’t say what because I don’t want to trigger anyone.

It takes an hour. I finish at 12pm, I’ll probably eat lunch on the train back. Do you have an aircon at home?

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

Could always write it all up as an email @creative_writer - send it to the support team (getsupport@sane.org) or flick it through to 1800respect (I just checked and they don't provide support via email, but they do have an SMS service, 0458 737 732). As you know we don't really provide 1:1 support via email, but if it could be helpful for you to get it all out and know that it is being received by people who feel safe for you, you can email it to us - I can have a read through and will have a better idea of what's been going on for you.

Oh that's a long journey! Thank goodness trains have air con lol. Some of the older trams certainly don't, and that can be really rough - thankfully I live on a train line! I do have air-con, thank goodness. It's broken though, so I can't change the temperature. It blasts 18 degree air which gets too cold pretty quickly. But my house is er... definitely sinking, or something, cos my front sliding door doesn't close into the frame properly. Thus, as soon as I turn it off, the house is back to being too hot within like 20 minutes or so lol. Not that I'm complaining, mind you! I'm grateful to have air con at all, and I'll take too cold over too hot any day!

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Jynx, I’m scared to talk about some of it. I am even scared to talk to my psych about some of it and I’m not sure if I can. I have burning questions that I can’t answer and no one can answer. I don’t understand fully what happened to me and I don’t know if I have lost it.

That sounds annoying if it’s between too cold or too hot. I do suppose you can always wrap yourself up when it’s cold. I remember when I lived in a warmer climate I would sleep under the duvet with the AC on a regular basis lol 😂
