Oscillation between two mind sets

Oscillation between two mind sets

Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of things and don’t feel like my trauma defines me and I don’t feel so ashamed and scared. Other times I want to hide from the world and feel like a **** (I’m not going to say the word here since I don’t want to trigger anyone) 😭, I feel so ashamed that I don’t want people to know

@creative_writer I am glad you are using your strategies, can be very hard to do in the moment. I can't tell you bipolar will go away but I can say in my experience (caveat, caveat etc) learning techniques and coming to terms with things has made a massive difference. I don't seem to get mixed episodes anymore for example, or at least nothing like what they used to be.

The road is rough and rocky and twists all about but it is there. I don't want to imply anything is easy it was the hardest thing I have done to deal with this but if you take it slow things do change.

Sorry for pontificating I just really empaphise. @Zoe7 is right the support here seems great, glad @RiverSeal and @tyme and all the others are around to properly help

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@RiverSeal, @Zoe7, and @Acanthiza, just came back from dinner which helped a bit. Migraine sufferers often need regular meals, I hate dinner on the late-ish compared to my usual. I hadn’t eaten for a few hours which I know isn’t ideal, but sometimes one isn’t as diligent, particularly when sick. Migraine is still here, might need to sleep it off. I will aim to sleep by 10:30 after night prayers.

@Acanthiza, I feel like if you recognise mixed episode coming on early enough, it’s easier to break the cycle. I’m trying to get better at recognising. I had warning signs yesterday but hadn’t noticed until today what was happening. I guess with experience it becomes a bit easier each time. Last time I needed to take PRN for a few days straight, I’m hoping that won’t be the case this time. Otherwise knowing your triggers is important, like learning to manage stress, circadian rhythms and light exposure. I wonder if the Australian sun has anything to do with mixed episodes during summer

I'm glad dinner helped a bit @creative_writer and I hope you get some rest when you go to bed. Take care RiverSeal

@RiverSeal, feeling better today. I do feel like I have a hangover from migraines and agitation. I really hate this and don’t want to have to keep struggling with this madness

I'm glad you feel better today @creative_writer I don't experience migraines, but my mother does, and I am familiar with how it affects her. Hopefully, you recover from that feeling soon. You demonstrate your strength and resilience here on the Forums and even though it's tough you pull through which is amazing. Take care RiverSeal

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@RiverSeal, I hope so. It’s probably common to feel flat out afterwards. I feel shattered. I have memories popping up in my mind that I want to ignore, maybe I’m spending so much time in bed my distractions are limited. I don’t have the physical energy to do much and still don’t feel so well.

I hope my life turns around, it’s been messy for a month. I have taken more PRNs than I normally would. It was only last week where I took PRN for a few days in a row, I thought I was past it, but the agitation started creeping up again

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

Our minds are like a machine @creative_writer that doesn't stop, and it will have thoughts that are sometimes unhelpful and from the past. You know yourself best and what you can do to keep your mind thinking about more helpful things. What do you think you could do?

It's ok to take your PRN if you need it and that's what it is there for and how life is now isn't how it has to be forever.

@RiverSeal, distraction can help but not entirely sure how to distract myself right now. It is time to perform afternoon prayer, so maybe that’ll help. Might also try some salty water, I’m craving salt, it can help with migraines. Maybe my blood pressure is a bit low right now? I wouldn’t be surprised if it was, yesterday burnt me out really badly.

I certainly hope my life improves. My uncle’s bipolar disorder was really brutal.

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

This is getting ridiculous. Do I need to start living on PRNs now? 😫. The PRN helped me for 24hours and now I feel the agitation creeping in again. I fear it’s going to become my permanent meds and I don’t want to have to take more meds, I know my pdoc says it’s not a high dose, but this is frustrating. What kind of life is this?

Do you have any strategies to help with the agitation? @creative_writer
