Oscillation between two mind sets

Oscillation between two mind sets

Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of things and don’t feel like my trauma defines me and I don’t feel so ashamed and scared. Other times I want to hide from the world and feel like a **** (I’m not going to say the word here since I don’t want to trigger anyone) 😭, I feel so ashamed that I don’t want people to know

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Birdofparadise8, uni starts next week but they’ve started releasing content.

I’m safe. Sometimes it’s hard not to get desperate when you’re in a lot of pain. I’ve lost a number of relatives to smoking. I used to judge them. Yet, here I am, thinking of a different means of addiction that could send me down that road. I just need peace

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

Exciting @creative_writer. I don't start until the end of February. I don't think they put content out until a couple of days before uni starts, which sucks.

What units are you doing this sem?

Ah okay.

Hi @amber22, how are you? I’m having a pretty rough day today.

@Birdofparadise8, just the typical social work units such as researching, policy and community units

I'm sorry that today is rough for you @creative_writer

Do you have anything planned at all? Something that might get your mind off of things?

Hey @creative_writer sorry to hear you're having a rough day. I can understand the temptation to turn to unhealthy coping stuff. Seriously it is such an alluring thought when it feels like it could potentially provide relief. Alas the relief is always short-lived and often comes with its own suffering to then have to cope with on top of everything else. I can hear that you're doing your best to resist. Here for you if you need hun 💜

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Birdofparadise8, do you have much left of uni for your course?

@amber22, I just took a bit of time away from my phone, I felt like I needed some time away from the screen. My sis popped in into my room. We are both starting uni up soon, so just at the end of the holidays. I’ll probably fill the rest of the day with self-care.

@Jynx, the wrong things can easily draw people in. I have empathy for those who do struggle with addiction now. Emotional pain is heavy. Physical pain is also heavy. My mum thinks it would be a good idea to get to the bottom of things because my physical health may be affecting a number of things. I have gotten vision loss upon standing, lightheaded and feeling faint is pretty normal for me now, the more frequent worse migraines and not to mention the few months of sickness I had last year, I kept getting sick. I think something is amiss. Im still in my
20s, things shouldn’t be this hard. It’s hard not to feel confined to my bed and the thoughts just keep coming 😔. I am struggling to separate myself from ingrained beliefs

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@creative_writer yeah it sounds like there's a lot of compounding things, possibly all antagonising each other. Have you had much come to light from your medical supports? I imagine it would be quite interrelated with your mental health too ay.

It can be really hard to disentangle from things that our brains have accepted as 'fact' for so long. It can help I think to practice stepping back from one's own thoughts, becoming the observer. When a faulty belief rears up, you can focus not on the thought itself but on how it makes you feel. How your mind reacts to it. Focus on undermining the belief with alternate perspectives, finding evidence that dispels the power of the belief.

Is there any of those beliefs that you wanna chat about, unpack further here together?
