Oscillation between two mind sets

Oscillation between two mind sets

Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of things and don’t feel like my trauma defines me and I don’t feel so ashamed and scared. Other times I want to hide from the world and feel like a **** (I’m not going to say the word here since I don’t want to trigger anyone) 😭, I feel so ashamed that I don’t want people to know

Oh heck @creative_writer yeah that is bound to have a huge impact.

Look I won't lie, the MH system has a lot of flaws, and I can easily see how folks might become jaded and skeptical. Sounds like she sees a lot of MH professionals as only being in it for the money and wanting to cover their own ass first. That isn't untrue - but only some mh professionals are like that. And that's just true of any field of work too, whether it's health related or not.

I guess if she's made up her mind about it all, it's hard to feel like you can make a case for her to seek some help, hey.

@Jynx, it’s just I hate being reminded of not so good people I’ve seen before. I’ve seen no so good therapist. Particularly the pdoc who used to text during appointments and blamed me for not trying and making up symptoms. I haven’t found all therapists to be like that though. I would say it’s hard for me to find people I feel comfortable with. Then again, I never truly feel safe with anyone, so I just have to work with it

@creative_writer I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a long run of crappy experiences. Building up a sense of safety with someone can be really hard. Have you ever seen a trauma specialist? Someone who treats it more like a psychological injury than a pathological flaw in who you are as a person?

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Jynx, yes my psych is a trauma specialist. It’s annoying that Medicare had limited the sessions. Now it’s a monthly check in. I have a different pdoc who I see like every two months ish. And a psych nurse who I see monthly. My psych knows more of my history since I’ve seen her the longest

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@creative_writer have you found it to be different/more helpful having a trauma specialist?

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Jynx, yes, it has been helpful. It did also bring into light the hidden traumas that I didn’t know I had. Even smaller traumas can have an impact. It probably adds layers to the other more prominent traumas

Yeah it's so wild when you start uncovering it all @creative_writer - and how it all intersects. Do you feel a sense of safety/trust that you've built with this psych?

In response to: Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Jynx, to some level I have built that trust but even then it’s hard to feel completely safe and open

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@creative_writer makes sense if feeling safe and open is a foreign feeling for you, i.e. it wasn't something you got to experience regularly whilst growing up. It can even feel like a threat, because it is uncomfortable to be vulnerable with someone when your past experiences have taught you that other people aren't safe. I'm glad you have built it up to this point though, that takes effort! A rough road to be sure, and I think you're super brave for walking it 💜

@Jynx 💖

Yes it’s hard when it feels foreign. It’s hard to predict how others will react. I always get scared of burdening others too. I know reaching out for help is self care. Self care feels like a guilty pleasure. I’ve learnt to put other people’s needs at the expense of my own because that’s what I thought I was meant to do
