While in hospital

While in hospital

Today I wrote to the local hospital to complain about my treatment on the weekend.
When I first arrived in ED I was treated with care and empathy. Due to my physical complaint and my mental illness I was reassured each time a test was being done by the doctor. Then I was transferred to short stay unit. Again I was given great care. But during the night I got worse temp went sky high I was dehydrated snd almost fainted.
The nurse called a dr to come and see me. He was the rudest doctor I have ever had. He was short abrupt and said "oh you only have a cold". Had he checked my notes he would have seen I had to have a ct scan for possible blood clot. And that I had to speak to CAT team. And that the doctor in ED wrote down high heart rate and wheeze in chest. He spoke to me like I was a little kid.

I feel that because of my mental illness I wasn't treated right. I never want this doctor to treat me agsin. And it's the second time I've had him and both times he was terrible. No bedside manner at all. So after thinking about it today I decided to write and put my complain in writing. I don't need to be treated like this.

I'm hoping to hear back from the hospital.

Re: While in hospital

HI @BlueBay

It seems as if you are having a huge battle in there - I am so glad you are in hospital while you are feeling so low

Your new psychologist sounds great - and wonderful that she will help you with your mother - I am sure that is the monster at the bottom of all your confusion and sorrow - and so great that this lady understands - someone that will listen on a regular basis at last

It sounds crazy that they are closing the hospital for 2 weeks - it must be a very small hospital - but Christmas is the worst time of year for many people. There's that space in the difference between Mental Health and Physical Health - I had good treatment in the ED to have stitches in my finger one Christmas Eve and was it ever busy in there - and then - for my back pain I was in a Private Medical Hospital over New Year - and all one Easter on another year - it makes me steam that you may have to go home before you are ready

But I am glad that you are not going back to work until the New Year - you need time to recover - if nothing else - from that cough and your asthma - I know you need to do all your crying - but that is possibly making the cough worse - someone mentioned a humidfier - I am not sure of what that is but when I had bad asthma I bought a vaporiser - it could be the same thing - it's water in a container that is heated by electricity and has a little well in the top that you put metholated oil into and the steam blows across that and doesn't just moisten the air - it has the methol

Oh but - you work in a pharmacy and probably know all about those - you can hire one while you have this happening

I missed you yesterday - I suddenly felt I had to get off the computer and watch a movie - and never got back to the site - so I am sorry about that - I hope things will run more smoothly for me now that I have got most of the Christmas stuff organised -

Thinking of you

Re: While in hospital

Hi @Decadian
Not a good day today. In my room feeling sad. The time is getting closer and closer to Xmas and I feel sad. Supposed to be going for a walk with a few patients and nurse hopefully soon. Let's hope tomorrow brings a better day.
Glad you've got your Xmas sorted. It's good when you get things done. I ended up buying my daughter something today. Just have to get my sons something else and I'm done. Just need to buy food for Xmas but it's only us and the kids so I think a BBQ and salads something nice and easy. This will be our last Christmas in our home so it will be nice. And actually first Xmas without mother in law home with us. But that's life. We will see her before Xmas prob Saturday.
Yes this hospital is a small private with a 30 bed psych unit. Still can't believe they're closing down for two weeks. It's crazy you would think all the psychs could work it out that there would be at least one or two psychs around. It's so stupid I still can't believe it. Actually thinking of writing a letter of complaint.
I never thought I would still be crying so much. But obviously there is so much pain that needs to come out.
Hoping to go on my walk soon.
Hope you're doing ok @Decadian.
Take care my friend ❤️❤️❤️

Re: While in hospital

Hi @BlueBay

I am pretty sure I know how you are feeling about your mother - it's really rough and now - even years after I was where you are I can still feel bleak and lonely and feel some tears and wonder how anyone could be so nasty - but then as time has worn on - and my mother has died - I am sad and sometimes confused that I was supposed to put up with that - and wouldn't

But it is past - and in time this will be in the past for you - and once those tears are out you will feel better and start to heal - and you will be a stronger better person for what you have been through

Yes - it is crazy for a psyche hospital to close over Christmas - it makes no sense - I think I would be inclined to write a polite question suggesting at least one psyche to be on duty over the break - that it is the hardest time for years - maybe limit the patients too - but to stay open.

Wow

You seem to have Christmas under control - as I wrote about shopping for Christmas some two weeks back or so - that I had a Christmas when I could not do any shopping - my mind was a blank - for it was not just that my son had died that year - but also - I only just realised that Christmas is just over a week after his adoption - I think I was in hospital for a few days that year but I was home for Christmas. I have always been a believer in the season so I sang in the choir that year and remember how I felt when I got home after the carol service - when the stars were so bright and clear - that I would be okay

My situation was different - but as for the secular side of Christmas - it was too much - but even after all that has happened I have kept my faith - and I often wonder about that

You are in my thoughts

Hi @utopia
I am totally exhausted. I slept twice this afternoon. And then after dinner one of the nurses took a few for a walk. But I was struggling with my cough. I've requested to see the doctor tomorrow about my asthma.
I'm in bed now feeling tired agsin. Hoping to sleep better tonight.
Hi @Faith-and-Hope @Appleblossom @Shaz51 - sending you all my love. ❤️️❤️️❤️️

Re: While in hospital

Hi @Decadian
I'm trying to do as little as possible. You know I am thinking that the closer it's getting to Xmas the more emotional and sad I'm getting. But I know also that I have my 3 children and hubby with me and that's what counts. And we will have a nice day. But s part of me is still sad.
Thank you for your understanding about my mum. It's the hardest thing for someone to go through. And unless you have been through s similar situation others don't understand.
And I know you get because he were treated terribly by your mum. I'm sorry for what you went through.
Tske care. Chat agsin soon. ❤️❤️❤️

Re: While in hospital

Yes I understand @BlueBay

It works both ways - there are very few people I know who understand about my mother - and they would be professional people - after all - who can I tell - my daughter doesn't need to know

So - maybe one reason I am feeling easier this year is because I have walked with you these months and know you are somepne who understands how it has been for me
