Thanks @Faith-and-Hope, how's your adventure going? Is there a particular thread your putting updates? Jetlag takes about a week to settle I'm told, and I'm sure there's son Celtic wisdom to get over your post viral fatigue How's WH coping with his obcessive routines while travelling? A challenge I would think 😕 Hope this is a time yo rekindle some first love maybe.
Any good churches to visit there? Did you go this morning? Love ancient architecture and history. Churches are great for it. Hugz xox

@Faith-and-Hope You do know this 'birthday week' is going to go on for more than a week - don't you!!! You can tell me when to stop - then I'll know I've covered all bases I sneakily suspect that the actual day has already passed

Re: Far and Away

😁 It doesn't matter whether it is passed or not @Zoe7 ..... lol ..... our life with five children and full-on extended family, business etc that I have always done "birthday week" rather than "birthday day" so the kids never felt overlooked, and sometimes the day itself sucked ...... harder for a whole week to be sucky ......

Re: Far and Away

hahaha @Faith-and-Hope I haven't 'celebrated' my birthday for many years myself. I think I may have already told you but that time of year is so full on with christmas stuff happening everywhere (either a christmas parade, carols, end of year dinners etc.) and at least one of these always seem to be on my birthday - and of course I've been involved in all these events with the kids. We used to have a 'family' dinner out somewhere but even that was frought with tension so I try to avoid it as much as possible. I have left early (at my own birthday dinner) before when I had had enough of the coldness or tension amongst everyone.

Hi @Zoe7 ...... 💚💕

Sorry to have disappeared on you for a while there .... I had a girlfriend drop in ahead of going off travelling later today, and guess what .... ?? WH has discovered online shopping ..... :face_with_rolling_eyes: ... so now we are being inundated with home deliveries .....

That is so sad about your past birthdays. I know when family isn't nurturing these occasions can be better spent with friends, or even one special friend.

Even though we have operated very closely with WH's family, it is not a nurturing one by any stretch of the imagination, so I used to make three cakes for my kids as they grew up ...... one to take to school to share with their class, cos you could back then ..... one for the extended family occasion ..... and one to have a party with their friends, even if it meant cutting it down at the local playground with a bunch of balloons in hand.

We will have to have a Zoe7 party here for you, and many of the forum members don't enjoy the Christmas season for a variety of reasons, so the distraction will be good for everyone, as it was for me now.

Oh no - WH has discovered online shopping - more 'stuff' to find a 'home' for in the house @Faith-and-Hope

It is really nice that you had a friend drop in before going off travelling - that wouls have been an unexpected pleasure for the day

One of the last birthdays I actually 'celebrated' got very complicated. My sister's partner was being quite nasty (I really don't think he wanted to be there as He and my sister had had a 'fight' before they came) and I am not sure how it came about but it was also the day I openly told my father (in front of everyone) how much his violence towards me had affected me. Maybe it was because I could see the same thing unfolding with my sister and her partner as I had seen with my mother and father - which ultimately lead to it being turned onto me. So pretty much since then I have avoided family 'get togethers' as much as possible - doing the mandatory Christmas, other people's birthdays etc. but always having a good reason to avoid my own birthday - even the anticipation that there would be disharmony is enough to avoid it!

The really sad thing is I used to love my birthday - I would always do something special - even the simple things in life like sitting on the beach and watching the sunset - now I just don't care - it is just another day

Re: Far and Away

I hope you can go back to the simple celebration of your birthday @Zoe7 ..... since losing my mum and my dad being in the country, there were a lot of years where my birthday wasn't much of a celebration amongst the chaos of schooling and our business which was full-on .....

I didn't mind. I would take myself off to a favourite cafe for a gourmet style sandwich or something that everyone else wouldn't eat anyway, and just savour the moment ..... maybe buy myself a posy of flowers or something. WH would be reminded by his mum at the last moment and would follow through with a dinner out somewhere when we found space for it .... and the thought was that it wouldn't always be that way .....

Now the future is so unclear, but I will be okay .... whether we can pull everything back together or I end up on my own, I will be okay. That's what "making a new life" is about ..... finding new ways to be okay.
