Just checking in.

Just checking in.

I thought I'd start a discussion where we can check in with members and use this space to keep in contact. It's a space to be able to say how you really feel and it's a space for the good, the bad and the ugly moments in our lives.

Re: Just checking in.

I have lawyers involved and we are doing lots to the house to sell it @eth . It will painted throughout and new carpets, new light fitting etc which we will go halves in and get done professionally, it will cost a bit but will change the house dramatically and make it more saleable. I will get something out of it but much will go to my brother as I owe him a great deal of money possibly approaching 100k.

Re: Just checking in.

PS @eth my darling bro like yours is helping out as much as he can. He is paying for renos to be done but will be reimbursed from the sale.

Part 3 @eth

it’s all his rubbish littered all over the yard and in the sheds that is what I’m worried about. He has hoarded lots of stuff since we left. What was once a beautiful garden is now a junk yard with dead trees everywhere 😢🤯😡

Re: Just checking in.

Thanks @eth ❤

That's so big @Teej 🙁 I'm so sorry you're facing what you are.

I posted with a few percent of charge on my phone and as soon as it died I remembered I had left my only working charger where we were 😏. So I've car charged it enough to turn it on, write this post and leave it for a bit. Going to head off and work out the charger situation but will be back (just wanted to let you know I wasn't running though).

Re: Just checking in.

That's so unfair and sad that he's let it all go so completely. Feel for you @Teej So glad you have your brother's support. I am sure you'll get through this and feel a lot better once it's all behind you.

Re: Just checking in.

@Teej you asked earlier whether my well person has any one to talk with about what's going on and the answer is not really. We had some big moves and left behind a lot of people and it hit her the most in that way. I have sibs but not ones that she feels OK to talking with about much of it. One is very much about not getting involved (which drives me nuts) and the other can be quite ruthless when it comes it all which doesn't tend to help (but I do love them dearly for their honesty and no b.s. attitude). Mum talks with me lots which is great but tricky at times too, though it's not something I'm not already used to. I've been giving gentle nudges and then some to contact support people like carers organisations, a GP, MH people... anyone and everyone I can think of, but I can't make them go. I find it frustrating and then feel bad that I'm frustrated because I totally get how hard it can be to reach out and to find helpful support.

There's a vent 😏

I really am sorry to hear what you're needing to deal with. All the feelings that would go along with it would be so tough at times. Is he OK with you going through it all and doing what you need to do? In a way I think I'd feel so mad about what's going on and I'd want to explode, but then I think I'd also feel really sad about the whole situation too. Is the worry re the sheds and garden about how you're going to get through it all?

You're very right in remembering he is responsible for his own behaviour and the consequences of that. It's good to hear you and the boys talked through some of it. It would be hard for all of you ❤

Re: Just checking in.

Hey @CheerBear, @eth (@Snowy , @Sans911 , @outlander and others following along)

@CheerBear i gathered you were wearing lots of the load that way too. Has well one got a brother or sister around (they could be an only child too). I can imagine how hard that would be for them to reach out. I remember my parents meeting my therapist many years ago. There was a family meeting with all my brew, my parents and my therapist. It was actually really helpful for them all at the time. It also made counselling seem less scary to the olds. Maybe you could do it as family counselling and go with them and maybe drag some siblings too. It might gently open more doors for you all. Just a suggestion. .....a fixit one 😳

I don’t think I’d counted on having to have so much contact and so much to do with it all. The good that’s come out of it is it is giving the kids and I some strange closure. None of us thought we needed it but we probably do. After this weekend I want to get the one who needs the closure the most there but I’m not sure how to do it so there is closure and not confrontation. There is much anger from him at my ex even all these years on. He will be so relieved when he his gone. The risk of a physical altercation if provoked is by my ex is pretty high, my son would win the fight but lose the war. It’s something I don’t want my son to get caught up in.

There is still guilt for his behaviour in that if he has offended again it will go unanswered again. I guess maybe you can relate to this concept a bit. What does it take for things to stop?

The bad is that knowing there is so much to do but uncertainty of it all in more ways than one. I’m not sure where we are at legally. I think my ex thinks I’ve dropped the lawyer but we haven’t. There is much angst and stress to come from that. It will be though the lawyer that I get some guarantees about what work will be done and by whom and when. I’m missing my bro lots for this and have my head in the sand a fair bit. Next week I will probably have to face that again.

For now now though I have some fond memories sitting in front of me. While typing this I can see many boxes of jigsaw puzzles of all types and sizes. My boys and two in particular loved them.' They are going straight to the pool room', sorry little 'the castle' quote there

I also had some some other news that has been freaking me out lots. Boy is my psych in for it this week. I won’t say much yet.....only to say that my first thought when being told was that maybe when that happens it will be my time to suicide. Thus the head has been buried deep in the sand over this one for now. I just have to survive the property settlement first.

Well rave away you said 😜💜🤗.

Yep I’m good for any others to join in.

Re: Just checking in.

I like your fixits @Teej. They're always very gentle 🙂 Mental health is still pretty taboo with them (unless it comes to other people's mental health then it's OK to talk about 😏). I just want to make it better and to get them (and me in a selfish way) the support that maybe could help. I'll have a think about whether I can rally sibs to step in/up a bit more and maybe in that kind of way.

The contact you have to have with him would be making it so giantly hard. Then all the feelings and experiences your crew might be having too would add to it. I can imagine it being really tense with the one who can't go there. I really like the idea of closure though and of something you're clearly able to see/do that marks a new chapter and the end of an old one. Love the nice memories sitting in front of you (and the castle quote!).

I can relate to what you said about the fear of his actions hurting others. When I saw ex's partner I had a thought of "what if" and felt sick . As much as we both know it is on them (the person doing the actions), it doesn't feel nice to sit with.

That other news must be pretty huge and not what you need right now (or ever). I hope psych is helpful for you with it. If you'd like to share I'm listening, but totally respect it may not be OK for you to go there and that head in sand can actually be really helpful sometimes (despite what my psych says 😉😆😘).
