Just checking in.

Just checking in.

I thought I'd start a discussion where we can check in with members and use this space to keep in contact. It's a space to be able to say how you really feel and it's a space for the good, the bad and the ugly moments in our lives.

Just checking in.

I am still here much to my amazement 😱. Feeling very insecure and questioning everything again. I don’t know what is real or possible at the moment. Im not looking for answers here but wanted to check in quickly. I’m seeing my therapist today. I’m hoping I find a way to move forward again.

@Zoe7 I read your post yesterday. That was a really nice feel good moment for me....and possibly a little ironic that I may be having to go down the path of having my meds taken from me 🤐.

@CheerBear I hope you’ve had a fun day and evening. Really really pleased for you that you’ve got this time for you, you so deserve some good.

@eth When I read some of your posts I smile knowing the quality of life you are getting now is so much better than before. I’m so glad you are achieving lots of things with support workers.

@Faith-and-Hope I think of you pretty much every day wondering how things are going.

Hugs to all that read this

💜🤗

Re: Just checking in.

If having your meds taken away from you is what will make your environment safe for you then that is okay to have to do @Teej You have been hit by a bus again and whatever keeps you safe at this point is a good thing. You had made such wonderful progress so I can imagine how hard this has hit you and it sucks. Just get through each day as it comes Teej - that is all you need to do.

Re: Just checking in.

Thanks @eth snd @Zoe7. @Zoe7 I’ve stopped the not so healthy stuff with my meds so back on track again :face_with_rolling_eyes:.

@CheerBear I want to thank you so so much for being vulnerable and writing the new thread you started. I’m bringing that conversation here because I don’t want to get that thread off topic for you. Last night I was so so low. I had kept singing the line “how to save a life”. This morning i connected with your post in a big way.

The part i took from it was how do we trust ourself when our radars got smashed. For you it is this relationship but for me I think it is more any relationship, even the ones that logic tells me are safe. But most importantly I think it’s the one I have with myself. I got everything so wrong in my Big Bang (and ever since).

Before monday I’d started to very slowly start to start a life. I was failing dismally but I was more accepting of my fails and at least I was trying. The last few days I’ve had so many really painful thoughts about maybe I’m a dole bludger, maybe I’m not mentally unwell, maybe I’m just a pathetic human being and lots more maybes. The truth is I don’t know who I am or what I am. I have no radar system that is helpful. I have no clue what I can and can’t do. The truth is I am still very fragile and scared of living outside my four walls.

The new friend I was supposed to meet (not in the same category of friend as you 😉) I have run from contacting because of fear I’ll get it wrong. This was what I was working on in therapy and thinking I was doing the right thing. Now the centrelink thing has thrown me in a way that shame grew so big.

I guess the answer to your question and mine is that we have to develop our radars again and that is going to take lots of time. For you and me I think that maybe Brené Browns braving acronym for trust is a start. My suggestion for you would be to use lots of your psych sessions as well to talk through it. You are being brave and smart about all this. It’s a work in progress. It’s going to take lots of time and patience from you and him but I think you deserve that. I once read a quote that said “I’ll look after me for you if you’ll look after you for me”. I think that if I ever got in a relationship again this would be important. It’s pretty safe to say that is not going to happen though 🤦‍♀️.

Sorry for the ramble. Hugs for the hard tricky bits in this for you. 💜🤗

Pleased you are back on track with your meds again @Teej I know that is a big thing for you when you are feeling like you are There is definitely a lot going on for you but you continue to get through each day with that strength and courage that I know you have - pretty proud of how you are dealing with all this - it is not an easy situation for you at all but just the fact that meds are back on track says a lot. Still here walking with you Teej

Re: Just checking in.

@Teej thank you for this reply. I so much agree with the lasting impact of big bangs being trust in myself getting obliterated. I think a lot of it will be time too, but I want time to hurry up. I feel like I've been doing this rebuild thing for too long already 😑 As you've picked up on, I want things to happen yesterday 😉😆

That last part of your post really hits home (I love it when you borrow some Brene ❤). I have said lots (and lots and lots) of times that I want him to look after himself. I need him to focus on that for him and for me.

There's a lot I wanted to say in that thread Teej but was worried about saying and am maybe even worried about seeing properly in a way too. He's so nice and I'm sure he means well but I don't know if that makes it worth it. An 'I love you' happened right when I was about to mention feeling like we need to take a step back again. I said thanks and we'll talk (I win a 'so much awkward' award with that one 😖😕). So jumbly sometimes.

Thank you for listening, for getting it and for sharing what you have. I wanted to say how much some of what you are 'maybe-ing' about are things I feel too. That maybe I'm just a dole bludger, maybe I'm not actually bananas etc. I add in maybe I should just suck it up and get over it all, maybe I am just lazy, maybe I should try harder.... and the list goes on. I think the system makes us question ourselves so much and there are SO many unhelpful misconceptions and attitudes about people who have disabilities and people who are on welfare, that it is a breeding ground for self-doubt. Add in an already wonky self-esteem and it's a recipe for trouble I think. For what it is worth, I think you're being smashed around and let down by a broken system that hurts many. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this and that it has thrown things upside down and all over the place. Mega hugs.

Re: Just checking in.

Hugs from me too @Teej. F*&@ the stigma that comes with not working for a wage. There are so many other valid ways of life. You contribute here for a start. You are valuable here. You've been busy raising a family too, on top of health issues that are also valid (even invisible disabilities are valid). You work really hard at managing day to day. Hope that stabilizing your meds will help you find more balance.

I'd love to hear more about 'Brene Brown's braving acronym' it's not one I've heard of before.

Take care and go gently xx
