Just checking in.

Just checking in.

I thought I'd start a discussion where we can check in with members and use this space to keep in contact. It's a space to be able to say how you really feel and it's a space for the good, the bad and the ugly moments in our lives.

Re: Just checking in.

I hope that you find that this appointment on Monday is straight forward and there is nothing more you need to do @Teej but I also understand that it is definitely not something that you need especially when you are still feeling so vulnerable.

You have been doiong a great job over the last few weeks and I can see a change in you Hon - it may only seem subtle to you but we can see it. This is a big thing for you to deal with though and feeling that shame is hard to pull yourself out of. Do what you need to get through this and if that means calling a helpline, chatting to us here or taking prn to help then do it - there is no shame in any of that - you need help and deserve it so you are allowed to ask for it ...and we will continue to be here with you.

Thanks @Zoe7. Am just taking some meds now. No helpline needed tonight luckily. Thanks for your response. I think I might try to doa puzzle for a while now and hopefully sleep. I hope you get some good sleep as well. 💜🤗

Re: Just checking in.

Hey @Teej. Thinking of you with the horrid job stuff tomorrow. I don't know if you remember when I had to do it last year. I was worried (so worried and stressed) about it. I worked really hard to change my mentality and have hope to get something good out of it. I ended up having really high hopes before I went it and was completely, totally destroyed when they didn't come close to being what came from the experience. I don't think I wrote about how much it tipped me at the time because I was in absolute banana land, but it did.

(This sounds really negative but I'm getting to the point!)

I think if I had lowered my expectations and been more cautious I wouldn't have crashed quite so spectacularly. Being realistic and maybe even a little less than optimistic, maybe can help with this one. You sound like you're pretty aware that this might be not great and maybe that's not the worst thing. You also do get back up again. As Zoe said (I think) resilience is that. You do that as well as anyone.

Thinking of you, hoping it goes OK enough and knowing how messy this one can be ❤

Re: Just checking in.

@Teej I posted about it on the Long Rave in mid Decemeber.

I was voluntary and they still got it wrong. They made 3 or 4 mistakes that really threw me into panic. The attitude was controlling and referencing Centrelink payments all the time, though they were suposed to be a disability organisation. My person was new and I made allowances for her, but they pressured me. I felt they had no skills in working with me, where I was at. I had no confidence they would actually help once I had a job, that they were in it for the govt dollars.

It is a GOOD idea to have organisations devoted to helping people with disability to integrate into the workforce, but .... they need to WORK WITH their consumers.

Thanks @CheerBear. I kind of remember you going through it last year. Thank you for reminding me and letting me know your experiences. I was beginning to feel like a freak that I was so scared over this appointment. @Appleblossom, I’m sorry I must have missed your posts about it. Sorry you had a crappy experience too.

I had a really long peaceful sleep last night...14 hours 😳 and am a little calmer. It’s been a very slow day of trying not to get to crisis point again. I hope I get someone who understands that I need a really slow gentle approach to this tomorrow. Sorry I’m not sure what else to say. I hope your day is better than yesterday @Zoe7. I’m sure the milder weather helps a bit.

Re: Just checking in.

Today is a lot better than yesterday @Teej - just one of those days and like you I got through it. That is all we need to do sometimes - get through!

The roof on my garage is finally done so now I need to do the wall and then can put the shelves up and sort things out. Hoping for no rain for a few days so I can get it all done. It means a trip to Bunnings but tht is something I enjoy Will probably go tomorrow morning (depending how tired I am from today) to get the stuff for the wall. I may not be able to put it up tomorrow but I am hoping I can.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping it is all going okay. When is your appointment - morning or afternoon?

Re: Just checking in.

Thanks @eth, @Zoe7 💜🤗

i got Bunnings vouchers for Christmas @Zoe7, it’s like the only shop I tend to go to. Was looking up before what I could get. I’m a big spender lol, I’m thinking I need door stops as I keep tripping over the washing basket at night I’ve got holding my door open to let the cool breeze flow through the house. Saw some magnetic ones online that hold the door open, wondering if that is a good plan....nothing to stub my toe on :face_with_rolling_eyes:. Good luck with your garage. You are getting there bit by bit. 😊

Re: Just checking in.

I got Bunnings gift cards for Christmas and my birthday so I still have a couple hundre dollars to spend - have been saving them to get a mitre saw but might need to use them to get the stuff I need for the wall and then when I can afford it I will pay for the mitre saw. I can get by with the saws I have for now.

I would love to be shopping at Bunnings with you - sounds like we have a similar like for the store @Teej lol
