@amber22, I think studying can wait for tom. Didn’t get much done, but wasn’t feeling the best, I got something done in the end.

What do you enjoy the most about being a peer support worker?

Re: Feeling lonely around people

Maybe I’m ill, emotional and physical pain feels so intense. I probably should rest, just don’t know how to turn off

I'm proud of you, a little bit is still something! @creative_writer

My favourite thing about being a Peer Support Worker is being able to share my stories and relate to people. I feel like I'm a really empathetic person, and this career helps me harness that! 🙂

Re: Feeling lonely around people

@amber22, you certainty are empathetic and a good listener. Not many people are good listeners!

I’ve recently started seeing a new counsellor, still see a psych and psychiatrist too. I’m finding it a bit annoying that I feel my new counsellor starts assuming things, maybe I don’t know her well and she doesn’t know me well. Maybe I need to give it time, I’ve only had 2 sessions. I don’t know if I’m being nitpicky and it’s not like I’m paying the service anyways. Something just isn’t sitting right

Aww you're too kind @creative_writer So are you! You remember lots about me that I find very sweet 🙂

Oh no, definitely see how you go with this, it's can be very irritating and confusing when someone (especially a mental health professional) is assuming things about you and your journey. Maybe give it one more go, but always trust your gut. At the end of the day, you want what's best for you and your mental health, and not someone that is going to judge you or assume things!

I am heading off for the day now, I'll be back on the forums for a chat on Friday if you're around 💘

@tyme is here if you need anything at all tonight

Re: Feeling lonely around people

@amber22, I didn’t feel judged, but instead of being asked why I was finding hard to concentrate, she assumed that it was ASD related when it’s more trauma related. I didn’t used to have difficulties with concentration. When I told her about being traumatised after Lifeline, she went on how I figured out Lifeline was not the right place for me to work, but in reality it was only one interaction that left me shaken, I managed volunteering there for a full year. I know she is trying to help, but I’m not sure if she is a right fit, I can try one more session and decide from there.

I hope you have a restful evening 💖

@tyme, I’ve considered dropping out of the service. Counsellors tend to be a hit or miss. My last care in mind counsellor was unable to take me up again because of her workload. I still have my psych and pdoc, I’m seeing both monthly now, and I’m finishing up with guided service soon. I honestly don’t know what else to do. Better no counsellor than not feeling understood

Re: Feeling lonely around people

Fair enough @creative_writer . Have you tried letting the counsellor know?

Oops, I'll just add this. To let the counsellor know what you have found helpful, or unhelpful....?

Re: Feeling lonely around people

@tyme, I haven’t, but then I like protecting people’s feelings, which often means sacrificing my needs. I could try doing it politely and gently. I don’t have to bare my soul or anything in sessions, the counselling sessions were mostly for reducing distress levels between my other supports
